Discipline Creates Brilliance
Here is the complete transript of the podcast
Welcome back, or welcome to Success with Srini. Today is a Sunday. So Happy Sunday morning to you. I got a message back from my Friday podcast from a listener of the podcast, praising me for telling, telling them for changing the concept of time. Right after I recorded the podcast on Friday, right after we published it, it crossed my mind, oh, I should have added one more thing. Now one more thing I want to go back in time and change about my life. I talked about the time change. And I would take my time a little bit more seriously if given a chance if I’m given an opportunity to go back in time, but also want to change one more thing, if given an opportunity, which is I would like to practice a bit more, a little bit more anything and everything that I have done a little bit more, practice a little bit better driving practice a little bit better podcasting, practice a little bit better, radio, hosting something, anything, everything that I’m doing, I should have done a little bit better practice, practice, practice, practice, they told me, they told me my teachers told me, my mentors told me everybody around me, the environment told me to practice a little bit more a little bit better, I did not. And guess what? Discipline creates brilliance. Discipline creates brilliance, print it out on paper, put it on the wall.
Discipline creates brilliance, there is no brilliance, there is no brilliance anywhere else. A long time ago, I came across a saying I want to read it to you. And you’ll see how powerful this is. somewhere, someone somehow is transforming their greater sorrow into final strength, broader sympathy, D friendship, gentler tolerance, greater charity, and a truer vision of realities of life. When you meet that individual, you are going to lose. If there is a contest, you will lose. They are doing it a little better. Everything that you’re doing now, try to do it a little better, a little bit more practice little bit more effort a little bit more time to it, whatever craft you are engaged in right now. I read that. And since then, my understanding of discipline has changed ever since I understood that. So if there is one thing that I would like to go back in time and change one other thing other than the way I used my time, I would use my time, a little bit more to practice whatever I did, at that point in time. A lot of things I did back in my 20s and 30s are not relevant today. I understand that whatever I’m doing today may not be relevant tomorrow. I understand that. But I could have done a little bit better. Because along the way I met individuals, I’m telling you this, I’m promising this, this is the truth. Along the way, I met individuals who were a little smarter than me a little bit more prepared than me a little bit ahead of me in every aspect. And that little bit. That gap was me not putting in what I was supposed to put in. So that’s the one thing that I would like to change. spectacular success is always preceded by spectacular preparation. If I could have prepared a little bit more for today’s podcast, this podcast would have been a little bit better. If we collectively as a team on this site, we practice a little bit more on these podcasts, the overall podcast experience to you as a listener is going to be amazing. It’s not that you’re not doing it’s not that I’m not doing but I’m telling you this, this is what is going on in my mind, how can I make this a little bit better? A little bit better.
That’s the thought I want to leave you with for Sunday. So whatever you have planned for tomorrow, starting Monday, you plan to understand, whatever you have scheduled for 30 minutes or 20 minutes or an hour, whatever you have got going, why don’t we stretch it a little bit more? Give it a little bit more than you have in you. We all have we have time. We have effort, we have energy, we have everything? Why not? We apply a little bit more to things that we already are doing. Life rewards, people are very transactional. If I do this for you, what will you do for me? This is the question. Most people most of the time this is the subliminal question we have in everything that we are doing is what do I get what is in it for me?
Unfortunately, life doesn’t work that way. The majority of the things that we do in our day-to-day lives, there is no immediate or at least on the face reward rewards are stacked and displayed at a later point in time, at some point, who knows? Who knows if at all, they are visible to us, or if at all, they will be visible to us. Nobody knows. But they are stacked. Sometimes people do their job, and they go away. They just fade away because they never get the returns. But magically, those returns, come back to the children come back to other people who are in line who were associated with them. The results are to them, not to that individual who put who did put in the effort. You see, this is weird. The way the universal law of compensation works is unknown to mankind. How do things happen, why they happen, how events are connected, how people are placed in between events, and how events are placed in between people, is unknown. But then, that little bit, you have to do a bit more than what you’re supposed to do today, life is going to change. You see, this is the secret, this is one thing I would like to change given a chance a little bit more practice. That’s all, that’s all to this.
Before I wrap this up. One other thing I want to quickly give you most of the times people do not put a little bit more into what they’re doing is because the what just over five things that are going wrong in their thinking. First and foremost, the lack of faith in the purpose. The purpose is not clear to them. That’s why they’re doing it for the sake of doing but if there is a bigger purpose doing what they’re doing, they will put in the effort a little bit. They don’t understand the initiative. The initiative itself is weak, they don’t they can’t initiate themselves. And the overall initiative is weak. Imagination is weak sometimes that is why they don’t put in the little bit the higher effort. Obviously, discipline is not there. They don’t understand the principle of discipline. That’s why and then sometimes, I also see that people lack courage in doing what they’re doing. That is why they don’t want to put in the effort. So these are some things that you got to be careful of as you are stuck, you know, building and crafting a life in a meaningful life.
Okay, I’m gonna stop here you go. Have a wonderful Sunday. We’re going to connect back tomorrow, and we’re going to start off on a new topic. Okay, thank you. Bye now.
7 Key Aspects Of Goal Setting
Here is the complete transcript of the podcast
Welcome, or Welcome back to Success with Srini. Today on this podcast episode, I want to share with you a framework through which me, I, and we, on this side approach goals for our clients. But in a one-on-one session or in a coaching, mentoring kind of a setup, how do we approach people’s goals, this is something that I’m sure you’re going to help you. But also, if you are setting goals for your children or for your loved ones, you’re going to give you a perspective also. So I have a dual motive for doing this one, this is going to help you. So you don’t need to really go study, you know, 28 different books on goal setting.
At the same time, it also helps you help your loved ones who may be struggling to set up their own goals. So if you study the goal, literature on goal setting, different philosophies and different authors and all that. But everybody talks about how your goals have to be specific, how they have to be measurable, they have to be actionable, they have to be realistic, and they have to be timely. So they give like, you know, five different things, primarily these five, they predominantly, these are the five things that you got to be careful. That’s why they call it smart goal setting, you might have heard this even in your work set up depending upon what kind of work you are engaged in. But every goal has to at least make the smart processor kind of the smart formula. Now there are seven more things we focus on, or I focus on from my side. When it comes to goal setting, I’m gonna share those seven with you, in addition to the five.
The first one is goals have to be your own, you got to have complete ownership of your goal, something that you have created something with which you can identify yourself with something to which your soul your core can align with. I see people set goals for themselves, that are not their own. They’re setting them for themselves because they saw similar goals being set by their friends, by their extended family relatives, and things like that. Your goal has to be yours. Every time I have seen an unhappy individual, somebody who is filled with resentment, there is no joy, there is no happiness in anything that they’re doing. Every time I’ve seen somebody like that. And every time I’ve studied that individual, I have found that they are living somebody else’s dreams, they’re not living their dream. They are living somebody else’s goals. They’re not living their goals. So if you don’t have a goal that you’re working towards today, right now, at this moment, it means you are working for somebody else’s goals to fulfill, somebody else is accomplishing something bigger at your cost. So amazing how this works. But that is the truth.
So first of all, first and foremost is you’ve got to own your goal, something that you can identify yourself with, I push it hard, sometimes I set goals or have to sleep over them, I need to live with them for some time before I can go any further deep into it. Once I really see that I’m with it. And it is me it’s a part of me it’s part of my being then I move forward.
The second part is goals have to be flexible. Goals shouldn’t be rigid, they are changes you got to make along the way. If you need to modify your approach a bit, the timeline a bit whatever. So there has to be flexibility inbuilt into the goal-setting. Obviously, a goal has to be challenging, it really has to challenge it cannot be a feeling within which you feel you have it in your control. You wake up paranoid, you wake up, I need to get this done. I have no idea how to get this done. Let me work on it. So as I challenge you, at the same time, it should challenge you in a way where it’s exciting you has to bring in excitement otherwise it’s monotonous. Otherwise, it’s like anything else. If it only challenges you then you want to demotivate yourself and you want to drop off. So it has to create the excitement it has to keep the excitement alive.
A goal also has to be aligned. There are so many things that are happening in your life right now. So many things you are a mother, you are a father, you are a husband or a wife, you are a friend, you are a student, you are a worker, you are the boss, you are the creator, you are the consumer, you are a driver. If you are everywhere, everything has to happen. For a day to start for a day to end, everything has to happen in between. So, alignment is an interesting concept. Most people don’t think they don’t align their goals. So if you chase one-off goals, that’s not aligned, because what happens, you’re now sacrificing everything else. I have done that myself. And I know how hard it is. I left everything I wanted to go climb Everest. So that was the goal I was pursuing.
Luckily, it’s not a balanced goal was not a balanced goal by any which means a selfish goal. So let’s talk about balance for a second goal need to be balanced, that will be aligned, but balanced. So how much effort, how much time, how much material, what goes into it, in what proportion, to what extent, so as to be balanced with everything else that’s going on has to be aligned with everything that’s going on. Here is the last thing in this. Of course, there could be more. But these are the only things I’m highlighting right here right now on this podcast episode. Because these are the seven things we push on top of the five.
The last one is a goal has to be supported. either internally or externally, there has to be an element of support to every goal that you set. Most of the time, what I’ve seen people do is set a goal for which they do not have the approval of their loved ones. I’ve done that that mistake, that’s why I’m sharing it with you. The husband signs up for something, the wife has no idea, the wife signs up for something, the husband has no idea. And to set this goal of, for example, weight loss, to set his goal up without taking the approval of the partner with whom they live there 24 hours in the day under the same roof. So you are with someone with whom they are going to share a meal, and you don’t have their approval, or at least their support. Forget about approval support for this goal that you want to accomplish. Weight loss is an area where people lose out because the people with whom they share their feelings are not supporting them. In fact, they’re opposing them. For see, the wife goes home excitingly to the husband, oh, I signed up for this new weight loss program. And the husband responds saying, Ah, you know, you’ve done that so many times, I don’t think you know, I don’t know why you do this. Now all this excitement to bring to take control of life suddenly now completely deflated by someone. So the decision-making process, the goal setting process, they need to be involved. I’m going to do this, what do you think I want to bring in a new approach, I’m going to try a new strategy, I’m going to use a different way of thinking to go after this, even though I have failed 20 times before, I want to do this in a different way.
So now you are enlisting them into your goal. And now they will support you because you know you got them in very early. See goals, people not achieving their goals because they’re not supported. So if you are setting up a goal, a financial goal or a professional goal even doesn’t matter. They need to be supported by the people with whom you share your feelings or you co-exist with these seven points, ownership flexibility, challenging, excitement, alignment, balanced, supported. These are the seven elements on top of that the goals have to be Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic, and timeline to see how many you can bring into your goal setting. And I’ll tell you one last thing before we wrap this up, please write down your goals. Don’t think them write them down. Either on your computer or on paper ideally in your notebook somewhere that you can go back and refer to please write them down. Don’t think about your goals or ideas when you only think they occupy a very minuscule space in the brain and they go away.
Okay, and for anything in life to happen, anything that you are doing any outcome that you are seeking, in order for an outcome to happen. It has to occupy a bigger space Then the neuron in your brain so it’s better to write it down on paper okay that’s all, for now, you have a wonderful day wherever you are and we will talk tomorrow stay tuned bye now
How To Hire A Mentor
Here is the complete transcript of the podcast
Has it ever happened to you that something that you had been doing for a long amount of time, maybe 10, 15, 20 years, you wake up one morning, and you realize that everything that you had been doing for all these years, is not valid anymore? I’m not sure if you had this epiphany or this experience ever. I had once gone through this one time, I woke up one morning to realize what a big blunder I have done. With my years and years of understanding of a topic that is no more true. It’s completely incorrect. Not necessarily the idea of the knowledge, but the approach was completely incorrect, I could have approached it differently, and had a different outcome bigger and much more rewarding outcome, than the way I did it for a long time. Okay, here is how it goes.
This is, you know, I’m shivering as I’m doing this, okay. That’s how profound This is. Every time somebody has a problem, the first thing they do is try to fight it. And once they realize they cannot fight it anymore, they want to solve it. And first, they try to solve its force, then they will try to solve it with knowledge. And the only source of knowledge that we have been told by our parents and teachers is to read a book. So they go buy a book or borrow a book to solve the problem. So you have money problems, you want to explore how to make more money by getting a book, you have problems with saving money, or spending money, credit card, whatever you want to read a book on financial planning. Likewise, you have a bad habit, you will read a book on self-improvement. Now, all these books, if you get to the gist of all these books, there is a three-step simple process. That’s what these books talk about. Eventually, eventually, every author is a coach, eventually, every author has a seminar, every author has a workshop. Every author has an inner circle so the process is pretty simple. The book is lead gen. And then you step into a bigger, deeper association with them.
Three Steps to all this first and foremost in each of these books, each of these authors, they all say find an area to improve. So you already know which area you’re struggling in. Second, they will tell you eventually is to hire a mentor. And then they will tell you to create a plan and solve it to work with the mentor to solve, get to that goal get to that outcome, three steps. I did this the steps, the steps this process for years and years and years, for nearly 15 years. Like I know, I need to learn how to start a business I need to learn how to do this and how to do that. So I was waiting to hire a mentor. I kind of put a plan sometimes I had the plan ahead and I had it in my mind. And then I was looking for a mentor and I sometimes, you know you resonate with some people, sometimes some people are way more, you know, unreachable. You know, that’s the right word. You know, they’re too big for you. Sometimes you want to go with someone because you can create a connection with them all that so I went through all backed and only to realize that the plan I had in my mind is in a way unachievable because I’m not finding the right mentor. I spent a lot of time in that loop. Like going in looking for a mentor change the plan. I hear I listen to a mentor and they tell me, okay, do this differently or do this in a different way. And I like Okay, fine. So I’m going to change what I’m doing. Because I found a mentor. Or maybe this area doesn’t need improvement anymore. Because I’ve started to like, you know, I’m starting to live with this problem. So sometimes the prayer itself went away. Sometimes the need itself went away. While I was waiting for a mentor, sometimes my plan itself was incorrect, even though I had a good mentor. So I lived in this for a long time. Then suddenly what happened I was one day looking into all the investments I have done. And I was looking into some of the real estate portfolios that I was holding.
And I looked into all the houses that we were buying and some of the houses I bought, not because the schools were good, not because the property was located in the right city or any of that. I bought the properties because The property manager was good. So the property manager told me there is a house coming up do I want to buy? And I found his referral because I liked the property manager. So I ended up buying houses because of the property manager. So I took that idea. And I started looking into other aspects of life. Said, Okay, what if instead of trying to improve an area, instead of putting a plan together and then going after a mentor, or whatever that process is, why don’t I flip this whole narrative? Why don’t I look for mentors regardless of any areas of improvement, and I go invest in them. And I’ll tell you, my game completely shifted. With that one little epiphany, that one little idea. Every time I found a mentor who was willing to teach, I invested my time and money, mostly time. So I found a mentor, who was teaching a language that I had absolutely no interest in because he was a good teacher. I invested my time. I found a platform speaker or speaker who speaks from the stage had no interest to become a stage speaker from the stage. I ended up investing and becoming really good at it because he was a good mentor. I had no need for it. Then I found somebody who was incredible with the radio. Goodman’s incredible mentor. He was willing to do this for everybody who was stepping into this radio station. I stepped in, I invested in the mentor. My life changed.
You see, the message on today’s podcast is instead of trying to take your problem to a mentor, why not take a mentor’s opportunity into your life? When I flipped this narrative, I’ll tell you, I’ve been so happy because I get to meet incredible people who are incredible in what they do. I get to spend time with them. I get to learn. I’m a perpetual student. I never get to a state in my mind where I say, Okay, I solved a problem. I feel good about myself. I expect problems. In fact, every time I learn something new, I feel inadequate. But then because that inadequacy is not created by me. I love that inadequacy. I love improving it. I found an incredible mentor who was very good with videos, said okay, I’m willing to learn how I got into videos. I revamped my youtube channel you see, this is amazing when you really don’t need something but you spot talent. magic happens. So I want you to flip the narrative. Flip the narrative and go find good mentors, from whom you may not learn. Not because you want to solve a problem that you have and you expect them to solve it for you. But then because they have something to offer, and because you can afford to become a student and because you want to bring that greatness that they have into your life. I promise you, your life will change.
I appreciate you listening to this podcast. Stay with me. I’ll be back here again tomorrow. We can have an incredible conversation. Bye now.
