Google’s Secondary Search is Misleading..Competitors And Retailers Are Scratching Their Heads!
I had been trying to write about this for sometime now. Early this month google announced a secondary search feature to their search..
Try going to google.com
Type in “Best Buy” you will see the search returns a tons of pages
The first listing is obviously BestBuy.com but just below that there is second search bar “Search Best Buy”
Type in “camcorder” click on Seach Best Buy button
You will see many results but see what is happening to the rightmost screen. You will see more targeted ads from other competitors. In other words google is selling adspace on secondary search results.
the results returned from that search have nothing to do with Best Buy.com or its products or bestbuy as a company.
Is Google very selective with this strategy?
Now go back to www.google.com and search for the term “Costco” you will see there is no secondary seach for COSTCO there..
Why?
May be there are not many competitor ads for COSTCO in the secondary search and hence Google did not care to put a secondary seach on the results page.
May be there is more to this..but what I have heard is BESTBUY.COM is not using Google appliance for their site search.
So no matter how well google can crawl BestBuy.com it cannot effectively inxdex certain pages that the native search on bestbuy.com can do. So
the results returned are more or less incomplete when the site is not using google appliance or google search on the site (Assuming google is
integrating the local site index into the global search)
As a advertiser I love this feature because I can get more targeted traffic, traffic that I can take away from my competitor.
As a buyer, I completely dislike this feature, because when I am lead to believe that a site search is happening on BestBuy for my search term, I would like to get back the best and most relevant results, that includes products, discounts, promotions and information and anything else.
If you have read this post this far..and if you are serious of buying something on best buy go to bestbuy.com and perform a local search on the site..see if you are getting a good discount,
Try going to google and do a secondary search for that discount..see if Google is returning the same link.
I bet it will not..but I am testing..:)-
Tracking For YouTube Videos! Better Late Than Never…
When YouTube.com first debuted, most people looked at it and said, “It’s quaint and fun but is there really any value to this?” That is not to say that YouTube.com did not look like it was not entertaining. In fact, YouTube.com was a fun, original source of hours of entertainment. The question was, was there any value to YouTube.com other than its entertainment value? Could there be anything serious attached to YouTube.com or would it forever remain little more than yet another fun online diversion?
Well, time has answered that question in many ways: Equally like many other things YouTube.com has became a wonderful free resource for marketers. A multitude of products are marketed today on youtube, as often times marketing comes with virtually no costs at all!
While youtube as a marketing medium has evolved, the underlying architecture was never changed or developed to provide statistical visibility. A significant percentage of marketing functions can be made effective with testing and tracking. For doing this the underlying data capture functions
have to be in place.
After Google’s acquisition of Youtube, many video proponents predicted massive overhauling to the underlying architecture by google to monetize the site
in many different way that are only known to google itself. It did not happen that quick.
Finally yesterday Google announced that it will release a tracking application for videos on youtube, I am sure they will make it available for http://Videos.google.com
Untill now you could only see how many times your video was viewed.( the number doesn’t include how many times a video was seen completely, if someone played the video and stopped it right away that would still count). In addition to the view count comments and ratings provided some visibility.
While its known that geo data(who is watching the video, from which country in the world or which state in US) will be provided in the tracking tool,
what other features will be included is not known.
Will this new tracking tool help advertisers make better choices, induce some hope into internet advertising industry and resuce the social media
site’s poor performance in meeting the ad revenue forecasts?
Only time will tell!
Content Creation: Art, Science or Mechanices..What is it?
Most websites fail due to lack of care..most of the times care translates into Content. We all know that!
One section of successful bloggers thrive to create near perfect posts. While the other tends to focus on volume compromising the quality to a large extent. I personally do not believe that anyone can create near perfect content. Perfection is a relative term and no matter how well a piece of content is developed there is ample amount of opportunity to further develop it. When all set and done its the quality that wins not the quantity.
What does it take to create a good post? is it always an idea? Human brain is capable of creating thoughts. Seldom those good thoughts translate into actions.
In this case for a thought to translate into an article or a post it has to go thru many phases. while you can write down an idea, try to put a few words in the front and a few words in the back, develop your own spin;position;argument but at the end how it presents it self is dependent on how it faired thru all the phases of development. Its completeness is coming down to the following things.
Your ability to capture the thought to a paper in its nascent form…
Your own experiences and circumstances that can provide completeness to the thought…
Your persistence to give life to that thoughts.
Your ability to make that thought relate to others circumstances..
Your ability to prepare the thought…
You ability to analyze
While the thought moves thru various phases from inception to completion. How well you control these phases is very important too..
If you can conceive good ideas but are not able to translate them into actionable content then here is a small video that explains how you can

So getting quality traffic to your website is a very critical aspect for creating success that you want on the internet. Let us talk about it. How do you get quality traffic?. You need quality content to get quality traffic. To create quality content, not only you need to create quality content once but you need to consistently create that content, over and over again for an infinite amount of time.
How do we do it? There is a discipline to it.
I will tell you my secret to it. But there are multiple different ways of doing it and I completely respect every other system that is out there. So let us talk about it. I write twenty articles a day. Do I write them and submit them to directories to get back links? Every day on daily basis. No. But I sit down and do write twenty articles, I come up with 20 article ideas and I diligently make sure that I finish all those twenty by the end of the day if not if I can complete 5 or 6 in good in their entirety that is even much better. But I try to finish as much as I can . But twenty articles a day is the discipline I am talking about and that is very critical and if you can stick to the time schedule if you can put together the content that you plan for the given day and if you can do it consistently for 21 days that becomes a behavior or a habit and hereafter beyond 21 days it becomes a practice and that becomes a part of the life. 20 articles a day that is what I completely insist upon and that will create the success that you always wanted on the internet.
