Master The Science Of Communication
Here is the complete transcript of the podcast
On the podcast today, we are going to continue our discussion that I started on Monday, the 26th of December, where I said, I’m going to share maybe five or six things with you, that are going to prepare you and keep you and kind of predispose you to success in 2023. Whatever success you have in your mind, this is something that I’m applying in my life today as I’m doing this. So we started with 26. On Monday, I talked about cultivating outcome thinking yesterday, I talked about masterminding with Masters. And today, I want to spend some time and talk about communication. Something that I don’t think we do a lot, I don’t think we give a lot of time to it. But as much as we don’t want to think about it, it is a significant aspect of any success at home at work, and wherever outside doesn’t matter. Communication is the key to success. If you have challenges at home, one night between you and your significant other your spouse, your partner will tell you nine out of 10 times it could be because of communication, you have issues at work, nine out of 10 times its communication, you are not able to make friends build relationships outside communication. Seriously, nine out of 10 times, I’m not saying all the times nine out of 10 times that’s significant. So if I have to title today’s podcast episode, then I would title it as master the science of communication. Let’s talk about the word science. Science means there is data, there is research, and all that.
Now if you Google science of communication, the thing that pops up on the very top is grammar, phrases, proper etiquette in writing, and speaking, and all that. That is not what I’m going to focus on today on the podcast. This is science by science, what I mean is completely different than the science you find wherever other people are referring to see, science is the reason why I’m using the word sciences because it’s a feeling. So the idea is to become scientific with communication. It’s not about mastering grammar, or mastering a certain tonality, or certain things, whatever. And there are many people who focus on those things. If I was supposed to, or if I’m asked to go through a process of learning communication, and going through proper training and schooling and all that on the topic of communication that I think I’m going to fail, I don’t consider myself to be a good communicator, this is something that I’m improving every year. Luckily, from the day that I started thinking about it, I have continued to grow. I’m not there. But I wish I would do better, I could do better. So again, what 2023 I’m focusing a lot on this. Okay, let’s get into the science, or at least the way I think the sciences of communication. You see, there are only two things, one is listening. And the other is speaking and listening. And sometimes we speak without words. Sometimes we listen without our ears. So we listen with our ears, obviously, but also with our eyes. And sometimes we don’t need to use these two, you can close your eyes, and you can completely close your ears. But still, you can listen and that is using the power of the mind. So there are three ways we listen. Now, of course, there is you can add some other things to this, but these are the primary three things to stop. We’re speaking for a second, we speak with our mouths. But we also speak with our eyes. And certainly, we speak with our bodies too. So on the listening side, we have ears, eyes, and minds.
On the speaking side, we have eyes, mouths,s and bodies of course. You know you can speak with the mind but when you speak your mind you’re only speaking to yourself so you’re not speaking to anybody else. A common part between these two categories is thinking. So on the podcast, I’ve gone on to say this multiple times, words do not just happen. Words are the representation of what’s happening inside the speaker. And I also said that words modify the speaker before they modify the listener. So words impact the speaker before they impact the listener or anybody outside of the speaker. So thinking is the bridge thinking is important. So the way you think, and defines how you listen, how you process what you’re listening to. And, of course, the way you speak, has a lot to do with your thinking. So multiple podcast episodes here. And I was highlighting one of my very, I say, one of my best reads ever, one of the best books that I read, if not the best, but one of the best books, is by an incredible author, let’s give him an incredible book on communication. I think he’s the best when it comes to his research and his study and his presentation, numerous ideas, and numerous techniques he has shared as a part of his journey here on Earth. But then I as a speaker, on the radio, at seminars, workshops, doing what I do, and here on this podcast, there are three things that I learned. And I want to share with you, by the way, I want you to, I want you to study every book on communication. That’s why I’m not really highlighting a book because every book that I have read, Every book has contributed in some way, there is always a lesson that is impossible that you open a book and you read a couple of pages in you and you don’t get a message, or a lesson or a takeaway from it. I don’t think that’s possible. So every book on communication is, is what reading or what giving a try. But there are three things I want to share with you today as a part of this podcast, which I want to practice even more in 2023. That’s the idea.
The first and foremost is to be real with what you say. Because you see, it’s your character to let your persona that comes out as you’re speaking. So why use complex words why use unnecessary framing of ideas like languaging or, or words or phrases to frame things that you want to convey? There’s no need for all that. I mean, I see speakers spend hours together trying to get to the point, there’s no need for all that material. It’s okay if I make a mistake here. And if I say I’m sorry, here, or I say, um, or, you know, whatever. Good gentleman listeners would be okay because they know that I’m coming from a good place. And I’m not trying to fabricate things simply. So keep it real, I want to keep it more real in 2023. That’s my pursuit personal pursuit. I think I have kept it very real here this far, but I want to keep it even more real starting in 2023 The second part of communication is Being kind. There is no need to be harsh with words, there is ice I see that no need for all that there is absolutely nothing. If you are presenting something where there is a value mismatch. That means the listener is unhappy with what you’re saying or you are not being accepted. Then be kind still you can be kind, you could be kind on the extreme in front of extreme aggression. You could be the choice.
So I’ve seen people make the choice. In front of extreme aggression thrown at them. They have shown a tremendous amount of poise and, and a tremendous amount of character and did not participate in the digression and they’re kind of To the aggressor, and then, you know, they stuck behind and walked away. So if there is a value mismatch in any situation, then you know, you have a choice to step back, you don’t need to step forward on step over other people, there’s no need for that. And finally, the last one that I want to share with you, is being formed. You know, do research, study, get, acquire knowledge, and information, and make sure that whatever you are communicating, in fact, is helping you. And any communication for the sake of communication is a waste of time. So, study all the tips ever on communication, and study all the books on communication, but these three things are my observations. And I’ll be practicing this even more. And there is not like, I’m very real, you couldn’t be even more real. There’s not like I’m crying, you could be even kinder. And it’s not like I’m informed, you could be even more informed. So this is what I’ll be doing for myself in 2043. And this is my science by the way. Let’s do this. This is my science.
Okay, I want to stop here. And tomorrow on the podcast, what I’ll do, I was thinking, How do I structure this, do tune in because this is what is going to become all these are essential for success. All these are going to prepare you for if I were you, I’m going to get a book on communication and read it. Okay, if I video I will literally do it. I’m going to buy a book on communication and read the book seriously, and, get the book by Les Gibson, on how to have confidence in power in dealing with people. That’s the book. I’ll start with that book. And that book is incredible book focuses a lot on communication, and all have difficulty dealing with people. You’re challenged, you don’t know where to start, or how to go about it. Get the book, read them before the end of this year. Get it done. Okay. That’s all for now. You take care. I’ll be with you tomorrow. I promise you tomorrow. It’s gonna be a good one.
Mastermind With Masters
Here is the complete transcript of the podcast
Today on the podcast, I want to share something with you that changed my life. For the very first time, I believe this was in 2006 when I had this incredible epiphany incredible like this aha moment, this breakthrough moment in my life. And ever since I really nourished this and I have kept on going at it. And this continues to create incredible results for me. And for again, the year 2023 as we are stepping into 2023 and I’m going to be using this in a very big way, which is masterminding. And if I have to give a title to today’s podcast episode, then I would say mastermind with the masters. That’s the podcast title. Now I talked about this sometime a few months ago, I think that at the beginning of 2022 on this podcast, I talked about this. But then I’m sharing that again one more time today because this is what I’ll be doing more. And this is what is necessary to strengthen the outcomes that you’re seeking with whatever you have got going in the new year. So what is masterminding with Masters? Well, let’s talk about masterminds for a second. And we’ll talk about masters also. So first mastermind, what is the mastermind in 1925?
In the year 1945, Napoleon Hill wrote the book law, soft success, laws of success in that book, for the very first time, he talked about something called peer-to-peer mentoring. So a few people come together who are peers, it’s like Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lionel Messi, getting together in a room and talking about football, something like that. So you are good at what you’re doing. I’m good at what I’m doing, we bought a mastermind to talk about, I’ll tell you what I’m doing. You tell me what you’re doing. And I’ll see if I can model some of your stuff. You see if you can model my stuff. And we do that at scale. That means we bring you to bring 10 of your friends who are identical to you, I won’t bring 10 of my friends who are identical to me, and all of us, 22 of us enter into a room and talk about everything that we’re doing individually, and trying to educate everybody in the room. And at the end of the day, like everybody’s going to walk away from, you know, you, one individual is going to share one idea, but he’s going to walk away with 21 new ideas, something like that, right? That’s the mastermind. Napoleon Hill also wrote the book, Thinking Grow Rich came out in 1937 incredible book that changed my life for the very first time when I read it, and I continue to read that book. But that’s what mastermind is about. He talked about masterminds, the first individual ever to talk about masterminds at a level that he’s he has spoken about. And thereafter, there are many experts who have spoken about masterminds. But He is credited for really introducing this idea at scale in a book back in the day, literally 100 years ago, and making it available to everyone. So that’s what mastermind is in this context. Now, let’s talk about mastery on masters, who are masters are those who have acquired mastery, very simple. Well, how do you acquire mastery? Well, you practice something, and you perfect something. So you learn. You practice and you perfect, simple.
There is a metric that has been put forward, when can you assume or when can you be confident that you have acquired mastery? The formula is 10,000 hours or 10 years of doing something. So if you’re doing something for 10 years, you’re a master, you put in 10,000 hours, you are a master. So if you can put in 10,000 hours by tomorrow morning, you’re a master simple, okay, impossible, but you get the idea. So, what it means is, it has nothing to do with this, that last time I talked about this at one of my seminars, somebody commented on this thing, as too old for taking up something new and I made a point that said Age has nothing to do with anything when it comes to learning. When it comes to effort when it comes to some physical effort and things like that, yes, maybe, but nothing to do with your mental health as far as long as you are cognitively capable. And you’re, you’re in good mental state, then you can learn anything. And so the idea is to love faster. But mastery takes 10,000 hours. Now there is a lot of research on this that is, under some Erickson I believe under the skin a K, Anders Ericsson who Dr. K, Anders Ericsson came up with this formula for 10,000 hours. And then there is some more research on this. But more or less, everybody says 10,000 hours. And the first time I really, really got into this was when I read the book, the outliers, Malcolm Gladwell talked about this, and 10,000 hours of practice and how Beatles made it as Beatles and how they had these hours and hours of practice, even before they showed up the pros, even before they even became known for who they are. So many examples there. So where am I going with this? What’s my reason behind sharing this today on this podcast? Well, the key takeaway is to undo something that is not going right, which is if you look into all the conversations you are having today, with all the people around you, how many of them are your peers? How many of them have the same intellectual, emotional, and spiritual depth? The way you do? See, there are only two ways my daughter told me this the other day said there is, you know, there are only two ways to study people, they have depth, but they don’t have depth. That’s it. There’s nothing else. And I was thinking know how right she is?
How right she is. Either people have the depth or they don’t have that. That’s it. That’s pretty invalidating real levels, that sort of thing. People are good at so many things. And how do you measure that? How do you say, Where’s the depth? You know, what is the scale? I don’t know. But there’s some truth to her statement, I was thinking she got me thinking, see, if you don’t change the conversations, then it’s difficult to create the mind that you have to create in order to achieve whatever you want to achieve. So to really, you know, this is not about learning new things, or new skills, and any of that I think you already have all the experience, know how it’s not about another podcast like this, or under seminar on the success that has to teach you how you can become successful or anybody could become successful. Yes, from time to time, we need some motivation and all that, I get that. But overall, we know what needs to happen. And for that, we are also taking action. And despite our taking action, if things are not happening, then we got to look into at some point the people who we have around us, and people around us or not right? See, on one side, you cannot pursue spirituality, while having friends around you who are dragging you into, you know, discussions that are exactly opposite to spirituality. Like, let’s go do some crime, or let’s go to have some fun, I don’t know, I’m just making it up. But you get the idea. Okay, you cannot, you cannot build a business, that multimillion-dollar business, when friends around, you are constantly talking to you about the job and layoffs and the economy and how bad this is and how dead behind on that house payment or credit cards are killing them.
Whatever, you cannot make it. See you have to take, you have to put your foot down and say, you know, this is it, you know, I mean different individual, I need to work on my goals. I have some I have a plan, I have an agenda, I have some time that is given to me to accomplish certain things, and I need to really get going with those. But if you get caught up in those conversations, which by the way, are not bad, you may think those conversations are okay. So a friend of mine, or didn’t talk to me for 10 or 20 minutes, and we’re done. And then I can go back into whatever I’m doing. It’s not a big deal. But let me tell you, it’s a big deal. It is a big deal. And if you do not put your foot down now, then I don’t know when you will. Okay. That’s the idea. So it’s important that you get people who are very capable, very smart, and very accomplished around you. So you have some conversations that are empowering, that elevate you. That gives you the momentum, the energy, the meaning, and the definition of who you are and what you want to do with your life. You don’t want to be dragged into some depression, dreams and discussions are worth it.
Okay, want to stop here don’t want to sound too, even though I keep sounding very repetitive here on this podcast because I’m here every day. The idea is not to make it harder than it is. Want to stop? Here you go enjoy your Tuesday and before you know it, I’ll be with you as early as tomorrow. Keep listening. Stay tuned.
Cultivate Outcome Thinking…
Here is the complete transcript of the podcast
Welcome back to success with Srini. Happy Monday morning to you, today is a very special day. Because this is the last Monday of this year 2022. This is the last week, the official last week, then we have one weekend, and thereafter, it’s a new year. Next Monday is in the year 2023. So this is the last week. So if you have any goals and you have some thoughts that you want to, that you had in your mind, and you wanted to accomplish them, projects, goals, whatever you had in your mind, that has to be addressed. Now, this is the time you have a week, do whatever you have to do somehow, you know, get that little bit of that momentum and get going with it. Hopefully, 2023 is going to be a much more bigger and mighty year for you. That’s my vision.
That’s exactly what I’ve been doing here for over the last few weeks. So what I’m going to do today on the podcast is, in fact, over the next five, six days, I want to every episode, I’m going to focus on how to strengthen the possibilities of achieving goals, you probably have some goals, some ideas, whatever, right? So we have been talking about it. So whatever it is, it’s a start for all of us, first of January, and whatever things that you have planned for yourself or whatever things you’re thinking for yourself, what can be done to make sure that you are predisposed, you are in a way, kind of there like to make it happen. So nothing prepared, is that maybe the right word to say? Maybe a little bit cubed, or a little bit informed? Whatever it is. So what can I share with you that will help you to get to a position where you think, okay, okay, you know, I think I can accomplish some goals. So what I’ve done is, I went back and looked into something that I shared with all of you, if you are there with me from the beginning of this year, I have been sharing many things here on the podcast. But I looked at all that whatever I’ve done because we have a Trello dashboard, where I look into all the podcast episodes we have done and all that. So I kind of went back and picked up a few things from the last 12 months. And I want to spend the next five days sharing those insights with you, when I’m sharing these insights with you, I’m also putting them into play in my life. So one of the things I want to start today is talking a little bit about the thought process that goes into creating outcomes. See, in the end, all you are seeking is an outcome. And when we don’t plan for the outcome, then we open ourselves up to all kinds of distractions, and also to all kinds of other people with their agendas and their goals and all those things, trying to take away our time and our effort. And I did multiple podcast episodes already talking about outcome thinking and all but primarily. Today I want to talk about how to cultivate outcome thinking.
Now, let’s take that statement, cultivate outcome thinking. So let’s break those words out. So let’s take cultivate as a, as a first word and outcome thinking the second part of a sentence the first part of the sentence which happens to be one word is cultivated. And the second part of the sentence is outcome thinking. So what is cultivate mean in that traditional, world in an elemental state, what cultivate means is cultivation? Cultivation means that you how does a former approach cultivation farmer waits for the right time. And when the season is right, the farmer works on loosening up the soil and sowing some seeds. I think that’s the right way to say that and then wait for this, the seed to break the ground and eventually snowball into whatever it is whatever the seed is supposed to do. And after a specific time, now the former is going to reap the rewards kind of cut you know, whatever the grains, whatever it is, so you get the idea. That’s how it works. And I’m struggling to explain this on the podcast, but that’s the process that’s the cultivation, standard cultivation so you need soil, you need a seed you need some soil you need the right season, or maybe some water some sunlight. So you plant the seed. And then you water the seed and wait for the seed to break the ground and come up and hopefully it turns into a small little let’s say a tree or you know, whatever it is right? And then maybe a flower maybe a fruit whatever. that comes out of it. And that’s the reward. Very simple. So cultivation is clear. Now, let’s talk about outcome thinking. outcome thinking is simply, as it states, needs for every thought I have in my mind, I need to have an outcome. Simply put, every thought has to generate an outcome. If a thought is in mind, and there is no outcome, then it’s a waste.
So the brain given the brain’s energy time to it is something that’s gonna drain you, it’s going to take resources from you. But interestingly, every thought has an outcome. But the outcome, specifically what we are talking about here is an outcome that, that benefits us, that has some tangible if not, you know, not all benefits are, are tangible, some are intangible, too, but it makes whatever the outcome is, it makes sense, it adds to the growth. So outcome thinking does one other thing and outcome. Thinking connects the activity to a result and conducts the activity to a result, people, do a lot of activities. And sometimes they don’t know what they’re doing when it has to yield a result. Okay, so let’s talk about some steps and how to put this into play. What does it take to do this, the first and foremost in all this is you’ve got to define a goal. So this is where it all comes down to again, going back into the goal-setting discussion, you got to have a decent idea better, the idea is already written down in form of a goal, something that is progressive, that creates some growth, some outcome for you starts by defining the goal. And then once the goal is somewhat defined, then the engagement comes in. You got to engage, you engage with what you engage with action to take action on the goal, then not necessarily the action going to yield the result, the end result may happen or may not happen, we do not know. But we are reasonable, we are expecting it to happen because we have put in the groundwork, and we want it to happen the way we are expecting it to happen. But if it is not happening, or it’s taking time, there’s one other element that has to happen, which is we got to start measuring the reason measure the activities because if a change is necessary, we collected all the data to go back and make the change, maybe a change in action, or maybe the change in the goal itself.
The definition of the goal itself, see the heat of the challenge, majority of the time through our own programming and through our own cultural upbringing, or whatever it is, we tend to be more ritualistic when it comes down to getting things done. This is the way I have to do it because this is the way it has been done. And this is what I was told. So we are ritually oriented in our approach. And we are also in a way, process-oriented to process in the sense not necessarily a refined and renewed process. It’s more like this is the way I was doing it. So this is the way I will do it. That’s the kind of mindset so I have a process to get things done. And I’m going to use that I have a ritual. Essentially, the goal is increased when 2023 Starts Here we are stepping into the new year. The goal is that we stop thinking in terms of rituals and processes, we step into outcomes. Get away from ritual oriented mindset and the process-oriented mindset, you step into an outcome-oriented mindset. The key is he got to define the intent, clearly define the intent, and work as much. So once you define the intent, you set some goals involved. And you start the idea is once you start engaging, you start taking action, you got to collect data so that you can analyze, and as you’re measuring idea is to measure so that you can make some changes. But then the better way to say that is you are looking to do some course corrections. That’s it for your goals for the goals, starting 2023 January 1, whatever goal you have for yourself and whatever activity be engaging in the new year, doesn’t matter whether your job is to make sure that you have defined whatever you want to accomplish. That means you set the intent. And the idea is to collect some data so that you can analyze and once you analyze that you can make some course corrections that don’t become rigid with goals. And don’t beat up yourself because you couldn’t accomplish goals.
It’s important that you have a very fluid and very accommodating mindset flexible mindset so that it flows. The idea is to flow through life. The idea is not to punish yourself for life. I’m going to stop here and this is it. So go without thinking, put some thought around this concept today, tomorrow. Come here and talk about one more thing. So the reason again, I’m sharing this with you is because I’m going to be doing more of this. I am right now doing some outcome thinking towards all the goals I haven’t towards everything that I want to accomplish for 2023. So this is important. And I’m not saying don’t do other things, you do other things. But this is important. Get into that thinking as soon as possible. Okay, that’s all for now. You go enjoy your Monday is the last Monday of the year, and I’m gonna catch you on the last Tuesday of tomorrow.
