How To Deal with Your Child’s Smartphone Addiction
Here is the complete transcript of the podcast
Happy Monday morning to you. Welcome back to Success with Srini. Today on the podcast, I’m answering a question. It’s an interesting one, because this is something that a lot of people are going through, and I also at some point went through it myself. So Srini I’ve been trying to ask this question for a while do not know why I waited this long. My 12-year-old is spending a lot of time on gadgets. He started playing video games very early on. And in the last year or so it has become worse, he spends a lot of time on his iPhone now. By all accounts, he is addicted and worried about his eyes. Would hypnosis help in making him quit this? Okay, that’s the question. See, when you said by all counts, he is addicted, I think you have already, you have already done your research.
So there are different ways I can answer this question. But this is not something new. And you are not alone. There are a lot of people who are going through this. And there is a lot of help. So let me really answer the last part of this question, which is would nurses help in making him quit this? A yes or no? Yes or no, in the sense is he is 12 years, all you said is, you know, for all practical reasons, he’s already 13. He’s already the teenager, almost not by literally going by the days, but he’s already there. So hypnosis helps people who are willing to make a change. And they are willing to participate in the change process. So it’s very difficult to make somebody quit a habit when they do not agree with the fact that they are already addicted to something. So that’s why alcoholics never quit alcohol, because they don’t agree that they’re alcoholic, very hard. So the change has to come with them. So only 13 If you give me five more years, this problem is going to go away on its own. But that’s not why you asked this question. So let’s talk about what might have caused this problem. I think primarily this happens, and this is what I’ve seen the kid is bonding with something else. So that there is some lack of time or some lack, of engagement from a parent’s standpoint, at some point in your child’s life, that’s one angle.
The other angle is that the child might be mimicking what the parents are already doing in the house. And most of the time that’s the case, that means you’re trying to you’re scared to do something that you otherwise yourself are not doing. So that’s a possibility, too. And you said, you know, I’m worried about his eyes. On this end, as I’m trying to answer your question, I’m worried about many other things. And I’m also primarily worried about one other thing, which is something that I think has happened to me. So back in India, when I was right around 10, or 11, I think I was 12 years old when TV started becoming very big in India, it started like really big going mainstream. And that was the time when I think I got addicted to watching TV, even though it used to come only for three hours in the evening. But it was coming at a time when I was doing. I was supposed to be studying and doing my homework and all that. And years later, when I tried to understand knowing what I know now about self-improvement and the concepts of personal development and all that. And I’m trying to focus on my efficiency, my productivity, and all that. I’m starting to realize that my processing, my planning, and my focus got compromised at an earlier age. And if I trace back, and I look at my grades and my schools, and my performance, I somehow go back to the time when PV started becoming mainstream in India when I was growing up. And I think I lost some precious time there. So what has happened is my cognition got impacted.
So case in point, you said you’re worried about his eyes. I’m worried about his cognition. And that is why personally now knowing what I know I don’t spend a lot of time watching TV or in an activity that otherwise will make me an addict. No activity should make me an addict. Sometimes people get addicted to common things. So nothing should dominate the mind. Other than that which you want the mind to dominate, you want something your mind should do, your mind should do that you shouldn’t be subservient to your mind. So there are some therapies available. There are some, and as a family, I recommend that you participate in some therapy. And stop this from becoming a bigger problem, because I think you’re already thinking in lines of therapy, otherwise, you shouldn’t have asked, and you would not have asked me about hypnosis. Yes, hypnosis works. It could work provided the whole family comes together into a more collective therapy. This is not an isolated case where a kid has fallen into a bad habit. That’s not the case. That’s not how I see it. At least the way I’m reading this question. I hope answered your question.
So yes, you should try hypnotherapy, you should try psychotherapy, you should go to experts who specialize in helping kids quit. These addictions are these kinds of addictions. If you do not address this sooner, then by the time your kid starts to discover himself or herself, there are some other secondary habits that could also develop as a result of this. So there’s a lot at stake at this point. And the biggest thing that you should be worried about is, is about the cognitive abilities getting impacted as a result of this. I hope I answered your question. And I’m going to stop here. I hope I did. I did. If I did, let me know.
And again, if you have a question, as a listener of this podcast, you have a question for me, by all means, please text me at 888-818-0404 You can always email me at srini@saripalli.com. But texting is much better. And that’s all for now. I’ll talk to you at least tomorrow. Keep listening!
How To Prepare For A Recession: 4 Income Streams To Understand & Deploy
Here is the complete transcript of the podcast
Welcome back to Success with Srini. Happy Sunday morning to you today’s podcast episode is inspired by several conversations I’m listening to lately and part of multiple different discussions, conversations, and meeting people. I’m talking to people. And everywhere. There is this fear, fear, I think fear would be an extreme word here. But there is this apprehension about the economy, and how 2023 is going to be a difficulty here. And all that.
So I’m hearing all that I thought I should do a podcast episode and talk about what are some of the things that a common man should do not necessarily to prepare, but conceptually get stronger about the economy about money. And as I was thinking about this, there are different angles I could take on this topic. Because this is big, this is huge. And it’s very, very hard to talk about all the aspects in one podcast episode very hard, I can do multiple parts over the next few days, and I still cannot cover all the angles, there is one specific angle that I want to highlight as a part of today’s episode, which is, in order to win in 2023, or whenever, whenever there is a real economic challenge, and you know, jobs, job challenge, or financial challenge, whatever it is, whatever that is, in the economic slowdown, one day will happen. We don’t know when but it’s going to happen. How to strengthen yourself for that situation. And I think it’s more about building an understanding about money, then really saving a lot of money and then waiting for it to happen, and in the process becoming more fearful and all that. So I don’t think that’s the answer to the problem. So this one angle, is, it’s important to understand the income rather than saving the money that you’re making.
That’s the point. Understanding income is important. I don’t think people understand how income works. I did several podcast episodes talking about this. Very early, in January of 2022. I did a podcast talking about how different incomes work and why we need to focus on all kinds of income. Along the way, I did a few episodes also. But today, I want to specifically focus on four levels of understanding. And this is going to make you a better professional, better entrepreneur, and businessman. Whatever you are a businesswoman, whatever you are, it’s going to make you stronger, it’s going to give you the strength to deal with any level of uncertainty whenever it’s going to happen. The first concept here is understanding efficiency income. This is a word that I came up with, there isn’t something called efficiency, income, efficiency income is how can you become more efficient for the income that you’re already making right now. That’s the crux of this. That’s where the real success. And if I have to say this differently, the way you become more efficient is by working on your productivity. So productivity means overcoming some negative habits, some negative beliefs you might be having about work money, and all that, increasing your focus. And most importantly, building personal energy, not getting stressed out and not becoming weak and all this. So energy is important to get things done. Habits are important to focus is important.
So when you start focusing on at least these three, they’re on the top of my mind right now. But there are many other things. But as you start thinking along those lines, you all these things when they’re gotten in control, you tend to become more productive as you become more productive, you become more efficient. And the reason why we want to do this is that whatever income you’re making, today, it’s not an income issue. It’s mostly a productivity issue. You become really good at doing what you’re doing. If you do that efficiently, then you can protect yourself and you can carry the same discipline to new jobs if necessary. So it’s very important to understand efficiency. The second part and this is the one that I talked about a lot already on this podcast is understanding relative income. For example, let’s say you are paid for eight hours a day. Let’s say you’re paid $100 an hour. About. So your income is $800 a day. But you are working so much, that you end up spending 16 hours a day to make those $800. So now your relative income is only $50 an hour. And this is a concept that most people don’t get it. And for some reason, they keep on working. And they don’t understand that this is one life and you’re not born to work, you are born to work. But then you also are born to really experience all the other aspects of life, it’s very important to understand the relative income. And whenever. So I met people who told me I only work four hours a day, and I make, you know, $50 an hour, for four hours, and then the remainder, whatever the number of hours remaining in the day, I just do whatever I want to do. So be careful with your time that’s tied head, relative income is an important concept, you got to really master. Now, let’s talk about additional income.
This is something that I have gotten a lot of questions about on the podcast, you can create additional income in different ways. For example, if you have money already, then you can use your money to make more money. And this is where passive income the concepts of passive income come in. This is where portfolio income comes in. This is where anything that’s outside of earned income is. So you can use the money to make money. If you have some assets, like real estate, or whatever assets you have, like your car, or whatever, you can rent out your car, you can rent out your house, and you can use your assets to make money. And if you have some more time on your hands, then you can use your time to make money. And as a part of that, you can start a business or you can use you can engage in some other activities. Or you can take up a second job, whatever that is. So the different ways to approach this. So additional income is always there. And I think I think everybody should have more than one income stream anyway. But most people don’t really, really understand this and they are confused, they want to start a business, but they don’t know what to do. They don’t have ideas. And I get those questions all the time, at least in the back of the day, I still really get a lot of questions, and I still run seminars on this.
That leads to the fourth and final one, which is knowledge, and income. Knowledge income is what you see when you are in a situation where you do not know what to do, but you want to do something. That is when this concept of knowledge income comes in. You take whatever knowledge you have, whatever experiences, skills, and talents that you have within you, and you have been doing whatever you’re doing for a long time, and you turn that into an income stream. So back in the day, we used to call this or even today, we used to call information marketing or doing something where you take anything and everything that you know, you’d package that into a product or a service and sell it and generate income from it. And this could be pretty deep though I can. I can talk a lot about how to do this because this is something that I have done this is this is the life I’ve lived, where I took dumb things I’ve taken to the experiences and package them into information that I turned that information into, into an income stream in the form of coaching consulting, courses, training programs, seminars, workshops, retreats, masterminds did all that stuff. So if you ever think this is the big takeaway from today’s podcast episode, if you ever think that you do not know what to do, which business to start, where to start, how to build it and all I want to let you know that there is a business already within you there is an income already within you. There are multiple sleeper revenues within you. All you have to do is to awaken them, you have to wake them up. That’s all you have to do. And if you do it now, so for example, you understand relative income, you become more efficient.
So you deploy efficient income, you create an additional income in the form of either the former knowledge, income or some passive income, or some portfolio income. Whatever it is, we use, position yourself like this. Imagine what will happen to you when you step into a difficulty here. See you’re accused. So Ill A lot of fear for that matter, is because we are uninformed. The only time we are fearful is when we are uninformed. We don’t know what to do. We don’t know. Because we don’t know what to do. We process the risk at a bigger level than otherwise, we should be processing. So the message is that you understand your income. you position yourself, if possible with one or two or three of these that I already talked about here, and then mentally become stronger to deal with any uncertainty in the market. That’s all for now. Enjoy your Sunday. And before you know it, I’ll be with you tomorrow. And tomorrow, the start of a new week. And every tomorrow is getting us closer to the new year.
That’s all for now. You take care of yourself. I’ll talk to you soon. Bye now.
How To Know When To Delegate: The 5-Indicators
Here is the complete transcript of the podcast
Today’s podcast episode is a question that I did not answer. The question came about like, a couple of months ago, maybe more. I never answered this question. But then, as I was looking into here, 2023 and the way it’s shaping up some goals, and some projects that I want to take on, it started to this question came back to my mind. And I said, Okay, I should now answer this question because this is my problem. Now, before earlier, it was a listener’s problem. And they were not very serious about it. So I did not answer the question. And now it has become my problem. So I own this. So the question was Srini, I’ve been listening to your podcast, and specifically, I love the productivity secrets that you have been sharing. I wanted to know when I should delegate that to the question, and you keep on pushing to delegate wanted to find out how I know that I’m ready to delegate stuff. For my work? That was the question.
Now, the reason why this has become so dominant, in my mind, is because I’m starting to delegate more in 2023, I’ve started to figure this out, or at least I’ve started to acknowledge the fact that I’m not able to keep up with everything that’s happening. And I need to agree, I need to acknowledge even more and plan for this. I’m an entrepreneur. And, to a large extent, I don’t seek perfection in my life. At the same time, I have issues with letting go. You know, giving up controls is an issue. And this is dominant. In a lot of people. See, you don’t want others to do your job. Or you don’t want to, you don’t want others to do some aspects of your job, even though you are delaying, you are procrastinating you are waiting, and you’re sleeping on the task that’s otherwise, then they have to happen. But for some reason, you’re not doing whatever it is. And now you’re in a situation where you are falling behind. So how to know when to do this, and how far you should go with this? Now, I want to answer this question within the context of work. There are many things you should be delegating. In your personal life in your financial life, there are so many things you should be pretty much everything has to be delegated at some level. You see, here is the challenge. You are dabbling. When I say you, I mean all of us, we are dabbling between people and technology. So we have to depend on people or on technology to get things done. And we’re also doubling between time and expectations. You see, there are a lot of expectations that we have of ourselves. We have expectations that are coming from our loved ones, we have expectations of society, I mean, everybody has expectations. And a lot has to do with us.
Now a lot of stress creates a lot of stress. So there are expectations, some created by others, some created by our own selves. And we need to balance or somehow we have to live up to those expectations in the amount of time we have. And we don’t have a lot of time. So if you want to meet all the expectations, in the amount of time you have, you either have to really become good at what you do. Or you depend on other people. If you depend on other people, then there comes inadequacy, you’re introducing some level of inadequacies, some level of inefficiencies, some degree of unknowns into everything. It’s very difficult to find good people to work on your stuff. That’s the truth. And that’s where the companies struggle, that’s where, you know, it’s an issue. And if you can’t find people, and then we go to technology, and sometimes we go to a combination of people in technology to get things done if we want to get them done in the amount of time we have. So, this is a constant never ending struggle. And we all go through this. So limited time and a lot of expectations, how do we live up to this? So in principle, whatever may be the case, you should be delegating. The question is when to know to delegate that that was an awesome question or something that’s awesome question. So So here are some pointers on when to delegate. If people are happy with your work, it’s about time that you should delegate. Think about it.
Why should you delegate? When people are happy with you, people are happy with you, it means you need to start setting bigger and more difficult goals for yourself, you need to grow. And for that, you need to do different things. And for that you need time. So people are very happy with what you’re doing. It’s about time that you should replace yourself. If people, your employees or coworkers, or people will report to you, they are showing more interest in the stuff that you are doing. If they are desiring more responsibility, then it’s time for you to delegate. If whatever you’re doing right now, doesn’t require a lot of perfection, you just want to get things done, you don’t need a lot of perfection, then you should delegate, you shouldn’t do that. You should delegate. If, whenever, and wherever, there is an app, or if there is a technology that can do things that otherwise you’re doing manually, you should delegate. If there are some recurring tasks that you’re doing, then you should delegate. This podcast is a recurring task. But I can’t delegate this, there are some aspects of this I delegate. But not all of it. Let’s say you want to learn something, you want to explore yourself, you want to educate yourself in some new area, or you want to explore some area a bit more at a deeper level, we are talking about personal growth, we are talking about the growth that has different aspects to it. If that is an ask, then you should delegate. So these are some ideas on when to think about delegating. And the reason why I’m doing today’s podcast and the reason why I’m answering or speaking my mind here is that in 2023 I have similar goals that I have for 2022. They’re not different, but I know why they did not happen do you do. And I know now that if I would have just enlisted some more help in some areas, then I would have been a lot farther in the game. And I want to fix that in the new year.
My question to you, in fact, I have asked for you, I want you to list down or write down everything that you are otherwise repeatedly doing. Or unnecessarily doing whatever it is, there is some value to it, that maybe there is some intrinsic value to it to you only, but other people don’t consider that that way. But whatever it is, so I want you to write down things that you shouldn’t be doing, but otherwise are doing. And I want you to think seriously about how these things are impeding your success. If someone can do these things, what will happen to you? How quickly can you grow more all you can do with the time that you will free up? See, I know if you’re listening to this podcast, I know you are dealing with a lot of expectations. You are practicing self-improvement or you’re a student of self-improvement. And the truth is you need help. The question is how can you help somebody to help you? Okay, I want to stop here. Go enjoy your weekend work on this ask work. Take this as homework work on this. And I promise you you will be in a much better situation when you step into the new year.
That’s all for now. And before you know it, I’ll be with you as early as tomorrow. Enjoy your Saturday. Thank you.
