How To Cope With Anxiety
Here is the complete transcript of the podcast
Welcome aboard. Welcome back to Success with Srini. Today on the podcast. We’re talking about How To Overcome Anxiety, and how to cope with anxiety, a topic that has been close to my heart. I say that because growing up, I’ve seen several of my relatives, and my family members going through extreme anxiety. If part of my life I lived in it myself, so I’ve gone through it. And I used all kinds of techniques to overcome. And I’ll tell you, over the last 20 years, I have trained numerous people through my seminars and workshops on this very topic, specifically using hypnosis to overcome anxiety. And we sold over 4000, ebooks and recordings specific to anxiety. And it’s such a huge topic. But then today, I want to focus on just one aspect of this. So stay with me, this is going to help you. I’m hoping this will help you. So the question is this, how to cope with anxiety and how to overcome anxiety?
Well, first of all, understand what it does to us. There are three or four things when it comes to brain function, the four things and mind function that impact us physically and mentally and drain us. And anxiety is one among them. So this is a huge thing and has to be addressed. So if you don’t have it, you don’t have it, you’re lucky, you’re great. So forget about it. So it’s all good. But if you have it and you’re suffering with it, then you have to address it. Now, the two ways to deal with this, are either you deal with anxiety at a conscious level. Or at an unconscious level, there are different strategies and you can overall you can divide them into, you know, an approach that deals with the conscious mind. And then an approach that deals with the unconscious mind. My suggestion is that you, you do both. So let’s look into the conscious part first. And we’ll talk about the unconscious part.
Now, on the conscious side, there are a few things you can do to get control. Okay, the three steps specifically first is you need to have, at any point in time, a list of all your worries. So I think in one of the earlier podcasts, I talked about this, schedule some time today, and write down all the worries that are dominating your mind. Just maybe 10 or five, as many worries that you have, maybe you have a buddy about the economy, maybe your job, maybe your children, the education, the college, whatever going is going on in your mind, list all those worries. And then the second step is scheduled sometime in the day, and look into each of these worries, please schedule an hour. And you going one by one through this list. And you start seeing in other words, you start questioning, you start questioning each of the worries. And you ask two questions. Is there a solution to this worry? Or should I leave it alone? By leaving it alone, it doesn’t mean that you’ll not think about it, you will think about it, but you will only think about it every once a week or maybe daily at a specific time. So here is the formula. List the worry, schedule the worry, question, the worry, list, schedule, question. Three is the formula. What are we achieving by doing this? Well, what do you have a tendency to stop us in our actions? So you’re focused right now, on getting your project done, or you’re focused on some outcomes right now you’re spending your time worries because they have an unconscious presence, they can come and cripple the conscious mind. So they can stop you from doing what you’re doing right now. And there isn’t a space for them, but then they show up at a time when you are not expecting them at all. And they impede you. And they show up multiple times throughout the day, even in your dreams. So the key is to identify this. So once you list them, once you have identified them, you can list them, you can look at them, you can talk to them, and you can address them. And let me tell you some of the worries cannot be solved. So you leave them you don’t deal with them anymore. And you agree that yes, these worries are you know I have it in them in me. But then there is no solution to this and I don’t have the solution right now.
So I’ll leave it aside but the some of the worries You probably have a solution. But then maybe the time is not right. Or maybe somebody else has a solution and the time is right. So you go and reach out to them for the solution. So you identify the worries. And then if possible, you avoid them. That’s the purpose of following this formula listing, scheduling, and questioning. This continues to happen on a weekly or a daily basis. Now, you shouldn’t get worried about your worries, if you are not in that scheduled timeframe. So let’s say I scheduled nine o’clock tonight to think about my worries, I think about my voice at nine o’clock tonight, I shouldn’t be thinking about them consciously throughout the day. At any point in time, if nobody shows up, and it competes with you, you tell yourself, oh, tonight at nine o’clock, I’m going to deal with it. That’s how the conscious part of approaching what is works. Let’s talk about the unconscious spot for a second. See, our unconscious is our beliefs or values or emotions, they’re all an unconscious part of the brain. So what is the dream, the emotions, they constantly are worried about something that means you are emotionally draining yourself. So in the unconscious part, there are multiple different things you could do. Overall, as a baseline meditation, yoga helps. But then, in my area of work, I focus a lot on hypnosis. So hypnosis is proven to deal with several dysfunctions of the mind. But then anxiety is one massive big dysfunction of the mind.
So the unconscious side, what we’re doing is there are so many different ways to approach on the unconscious part. And there are so many tools that so many techniques, so many strategies, but then the unconscious part deals with the mind expansion. So just because you can’t take the worry, the worries occupied the brain space, and you can’t take them out. So you expand the brain space, and all these hypnoses, yoga, meditation, all these things, they, they act as mind expansion tools, though, so now you have more space to accommodate, you know, the worries. At the end of the day, we are dealing with a finite amount of brain space anywhere. And we regulate the mind to deal with all these things that are happening, that are coming in. Bottom line is this. We have studied, at least in my understanding, that it’s not that people don’t have access to these tools. It’s not that these tools don’t work. The most unfortunate thing in all this is some tools don’t work for some people. I cannot say that doing yoga, and yoga are gonna fix everything. I can’t say that I do hypnosis, for example, hypnosis, do hypnosis, it magically fixes everything. I can’t say that these tools are there. And as an informed individual, as somebody who is existing in this space, right now, all of us in the information age, and we have access to everything, we should pursue anything and everything within our reach. And our reach is big. Used to be small, but now it’s big. So we have everything within our axis.
So my overall suggestion to you if you’re listening, and anybody else is, what’s your anything and everything, see what works for you. And whatever doesn’t work for you doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s just that it didn’t work for you. As simple as that. So there is no one is superior to the other. That discussion is I think it’s it’s unwanted. What we need to think about is, okay, I want to lose weight. And there are 20,000 different diet plans and programs and systems and all. Whatever I mean, in fact, that is that there are that many I’ll tell you is this whole is specifically in the weight loss fund. There are so many questions what is going to work for you? How much are you willing to experiment with? How much time you can give? And how long can you stay with us to make something work? That should be the approach? That should be the focus. So he’s talking anxiety. Okay, that’s all I hope this helps at least twice the conscious part because the unconscious part can be done. That’s not the issue. Playing the unconscious mind is easy with so many different tools available. But then the cautious part most people do not do is listing down their worries thinking about the worries, questioning, their worries, they don’t do. So I suggest you do that. Give it a try. And let me know how it goes. Thank you
How to be More Productive When You’re Feeling Unmotivated
Here is the complete transcript of the podcast
Welcome back to Success with Srini. Happy Monday morning to you, we start the week with an interesting topic today with this podcast, which is how to become productive at a time when you are less motivated, there is no motivation. But still, you have to become productive. What you have to do, this happens to the best of the best people, best of the best professionals, regardless of whichever trade they are in or whichever profession they are in. You wake up in the morning, and you see I don’t want to go to work, I don’t want to do this anymore. And maybe you planned to do something to start a project. But then you’re not finding yourself. And you’re waiting, you know, you can do it. But then you’re waiting for something to happen so that you get back into the gear, get back into the, into the zone. This is something I’ve dealt with myself numerous times, sometimes I have these great ideas that I want to do. And I want to put them into play. But then, for some reason, they don’t happen. And I’m like, Yeah, I’ll wait for something to happen before I do it. What it means is that I’m losing my momentum, that’s what it comes down to.
One of the key elements of peak performance is you got to keep doing what you’re doing, regardless. And every time somebody asks me, I’m lacking motivation. And my immediate response to them is, that you shouldn’t be looking for motivation for a professional. That means you’re not a professional. If you wake up in the morning, and you control your David the mood, if you’re not a professional, you’re not destined for success. So, and you heard me say this multiple times on this podcast, which is you got to have your day figured out. You got to have your week figured out, you need to figure out your month, your quarter your year, upfront. And that’s why this podcast and every other podcast and that’s why so many books on self-improvement and there’s so much of literature, so much of knowledge, so much of stuff everywhere around if you are seeking, okay, so how do we go about this because this happens is a common syndrome.
The first and foremost thing is you got to find out the source of your lack of motivation, the source of your lack of motivation, and what is the source? Let’s talk about symptoms for a second. It’s very natural to become unmotivated. Even in the middle of the act, people check out mentally. How once you are checked out, how long are you checked out? This question is important to question even in therapy, we asked this question. Let’s say you realize you woke up this morning, you realize that yeah, you know, I’m not feeling motivated, how long? The sense of lack of motivation stays with you for how many days? You got to establish a pattern. You got to figure out how long you stay unmotivated days weeks, or months, how long? It’s question one. Question two is how have you recovered in the past? What is it that you do to recover? Because recovery happens whether you like it or not very unnatural that you woke up 30 days at a stretch and felt unmotivated. If that’s the case, then something else is going on. Maybe for two or three months, you wake up every day unmotivated, doesn’t work that way, there are good days and there are bad days and they happen randomly. So what is it that is going on, on a good day with you? That is not happening on a bad day, you got to find the difference. So recovery ism, we need to understand recovery. And that comes relapse relapses. You know, you have a great thing going for you. And something happens for you to go back into a previous pattern. That means everything’s exciting, everything is happening. You’re optimistic, you’re hopeful, all that is great. But then you use something happens and you drag yourself back and saying is not worth it. I don’t feel motivated anymore. So there is something that is triggering this regression with your regressed back into usually some unresolved emotions, repressed emotions, usually. And maybe some events have happened in the past from which you have not clearly moved away. And you still are processing these thoughts in you.
Unfortunately, the brain is an incredibly powerful processing machine. There’s no other processing machine in the world that can that is as effective as the human brain is. So we do we process events from our past and then we get either demotivated or motivated in this case demotivated. So, the source of luck or motivation has to be identified as step one. Now, you do that, that you do that in parallel. But then the real question we are addressing here is, I woke up this morning, and I’m unmotivated, what should I do? Okay, the first and foremost thing is you need to have some support systems in place. Regardless, whoever you are, doesn’t matter how good you are, how great you are, and how much of incredible talents you have in you, you got to have a good support system in place. What are the support systems? What kind of support system that you need to have in place? The first is the most immediate source of motivation, what do you go to? What’s your first line of the source of motivation? For me, it’s music. That’s my first line of motivation. I could listen to a piece of music and I get motivated. For you, it could be a book, or maybe a movie, maybe a good conversation with a friend.
I’ll tell you, my second line of motivation is the photo album that I have with me, all my old photos from my childhood, my parents all that I have a photo album. And that’s my source of inspiration. What I do with those photos is my photos tell me where I came from, and where I am today. It shows me my past in front of my eyes, and my incredible love and appreciation for all the people who stepped into my life. And as a result of their cumulative effort, I am here doing what I’m doing. So I have this frame, an incredible frame of gratitude. Immediately, the minute I feel unmotivated, I go back to my album. So in my mind, I have photos of all my relatives and all my friends. Totally in my mind, because I see these pictures all the time. Then I have a third line of the source of motivation, which is an authority figure. Somebody who knows more than me, somebody who has done better things than me, somebody who has accomplished and who I look up to. This could be a teacher in your life, this could be a parent in your life, this could be a big brother in your life or a big sister, whoever that is, you should be having an authority figure in your life, at some point to tap into some motivation from them. And I also have my fourth line of motivation, which is my peers, my friends, sometimes my coworkers in the past, and sometimes your employees today, some people who I work with the two of my co-workers, I lean on them sometimes. So support systems. Now, even bigger than this. Let’s say you can’t tap into your source of, you know, deem your source of lack of motivation. Let’s say you don’t understand the duration, how long you stay unmotivated, you have no idea how you recovered, and you don’t know when you relapse, you have no control and all that, let’s say let’s take that as a case study. And then also look into that. Let’s take let’s make an assumption, that you don’t have any support systems. What can you do? You need to have a goal sheet. This is a must. Your goals have to be in front of you. You need to know why you wake up in the morning and what you do every day. Why do you wake up? And what do you do? You need to have these answers in place. I have kept on saying this on this podcast. I wake up in the morning I do this podcast. This is one of my goals. My daily goal is to do this podcast, you need to have your daily goals in place. In fact, you need to have your big goals in place. An incredible book, The Power of Less by Leo Bob, is the incredible book is he talks about a less is more in that he says you know God had a big goal in place.
And from there, you need to have multiple smaller goals that add up to that big goal. And from that, from those smaller goals, you will have each one of your smaller goals need to have multiple tasks beneath them. And then when you wake up in the morning, you have time blocks within which you are getting things done. And these tasks have to be marked into those blocks. And they need to be accomplished. Incredible model. You need to have a goal sheet. This is how you become powerful and even more productive at a time when you’re demoted because you need to get these things done. These are scheduled. People who are unmotivated or people who don’t have a schedule. See the truth. I can bet my life on this. They don’t know what to do with that time they wake up, they don’t know they wander all over the place. Imagine a doctor unwilling to go to work. I mean, there were enough reasons for doctors not to go. I mean, they had families they have, they have their life, they could have said we don’t want to go to hospitals, because there are patients there who have COVID, my our families would get COVID. They didn’t say that. I mean, there was, there was absolute motivation not to go to work. But they didn’t. They did, they did go and probably have difficulty controlling my voice here. You know, how many doctors lost their lives to this COVID. Scary, scary, if you think about it. They did go to work. Imagine them saying I’m demotivated to go to work, I don’t know what, and in fact, they were Ultra productive through all this. And a product with their life to give up their life’s to say people might take that fame for a second, just that frame for a second. And you think you and I are doing something more important than that. I don’t think I’m doing anything more important that none of the work that I do is as important as wasn’t what these heroes did. So once you have that frame, now, for them, it’s also routine. for them. It’s also the same, the same thing every day, there’s no variation. There is no fun in what they do. But they do go and save lives. So imagine that frame for a second, and structure that frames into your thinking, and start leading the day. How can you be unproductive? And how can you lack motivation in when you approach something through that frame? Part to lack of motivation. That’s all for now. I hope today’s podcast is helpful.
Hopefully, this motivates you to go and start doing whatever you’re planning to do and whatever your success trajectory is, you apply yourself to it. And before you know it, I’ll be here again with another incredible podcast. Another idea another concept and the strategy is at least tomorrow. So stay focused, stay safe wherever you are, and keep your eyes completely aligned to the work that you’re doing that will take you to the success that you deserve. That will take you to the success that you desire and deserve. Thank you.
Bigger Meaning & Charged Emotions Can Win You The World
Here is the complete transcript of the podcast
If you master your emotions you can win over the world. Emotional mastery is the topic of discussion today on this podcast, welcome, or welcome back to Success with Srini. Numerous times I have made this point on this podcast, that if I have to choose between logic and emotions, I would go with emotions. Yes, with a logical mind, we think logic gives us ideas, and logic gives us opinions. Logic also gives us the root for our beliefs. That’s true. So logical thinking does play a big role in our success, but then our emotions dominate. You’ve seen this in your life, you probably have seen this, every time you have a conflict within yourself where logically want to do something, but then emotionally, your emotions are somewhere, then usually humans emotions, when, and I recorded a video on my YouTube channel now talking about this, and talking about conflicts and how conflicts arise.
So every time you talk to somebody who is emotionally charged, and you try to explain something logically to them, guess who wins, they win. So clearly, you know, even though logically we can make choices, the success of the choice is through our emotions, is through our beliefs. And the difference between a belief and emotion is very simple emotions when over a long period of time, create our belief systems. So emotions have energy in them thoughts do not have, you know, the energy behind them. There’s a lot of documentation. There’s a lot of literature on this. So the true definition, I don’t know who came up with this, but they sometimes, a long time ago, somebody came up with this, they said, emotions are energy in motion, ie motion, energy in motion. So clearly, the minute you start putting energy behind your thoughts, your thoughts become emotions, and a lot more energy behind your emotions, they become your beliefs, your convictions, and beliefs, in turn, give rise to our behavior. And our behavior leads to actions and actions get us to results. So the cycle is pretty defined. It’s an amazing cycle. Now, I’ll give you an example. And, I first saw this as a young man, I first realized this in the year 1990. I was in India, there was this huge boxing bout between Mike Tyson and Buster Douglas. And the huge, huge thing was promoted all over the media all over the world. Obviously, I was supporting Mike Tyson. He was the greatest star back in the day even today, two amazing how that man has come and how far he has come spiritually. Mike Tyson lost that bout. It lost the game. And it’s crazy. The 42 to one. How could somebody like Mike Tyson lose out on a game like that? Like nobody gave Buster Douglas a chance. I mean, there was not even rated to win. And Buster Douglas pulled out the biggest upset in the sporting history on that day in Japan in 1990. Now, let’s look into this and why am I highlighting this? At that moment? You know, that happened then? And then there was a review in the newspaper.
You know, a few weeks later, there was an article in the news. I don’t know if this was back either on Sunday. Or it was in some magazine back in India. There was a magazine called Sunday back then that used to come every Sunday or India today maybe India today. I’m not sure. They said the reason why Buster Douglas was able to pull off this upset. And the reason why he defeated Mike Tyson was that Douglas was emotionally in a better state. His emotions, not the skill, emotions. Now, later on, the article explains what happened and why it happened. It’s it turns out that Buster Douglas lost his mother, just 23 days before this fight. And she was 46 years old. She was young she died. And 23 days later, Buster Douglas is coming to fight and look at his emotional state. Like he was literally coming the tremendous amount of pain within him and he just unleashed himself. Now if you are subsequent to that in the interviews that I’ve seen, Basha Douglas claims that he had an incredible strategy. His coach had a strategy so that is why he won.
But the true Notice that he was leading that bout with a set of emotions is coming from a whole different place. And Tyson was not. That’s the truth. Now, just if you want to know what happened subsequent to that, and I think this is also very important to mention here on the podcast is subsequent to this whole thing afterward, Don King who was promoting Mike Tyson was trying to get a second match rematch. And the reasoning behind that was, that there was a point when Mike Tyson knocked Buster Douglas in the fight. And the count, the referee, did not start the count on time. So Buster Douglas recovered from the fall and came back and defeated Mike Tyson. So there was a lot of controversy around you know, the count wasn’t didn’t start in time. So all back so, so there was this thing, Don King wanted a rematch and most of Mike Tyson’s fans, they all wanted a rematch. So Don King wanted a rematch, and he was working on it, but it never happened. Never happened. But then Buster Douglas. Soon after this fight. There was a rematch so he had to defend the title. So he defended the title against Evander Holyfield. In that rematch, the rematch happened but then against Evander Holyfield, and Evander Holyfield defeated Buster Douglas in the third round. The third round. And guess why? This time, Buster Douglas had no emotional reason to fight. He was not he was coming from a whole different place, this time. The emotional state was not there. You see, he even gained weight. He was like 14 pounds heavier than the time he fought Tyson. So it was not in the right place. And then Buster Douglas retired right after this game. And he was gone for like six years or so. And then eventually came back and tried to come back into the game, he won a few things here and there, but then never really came back and got back the glory. So even today, people know him because he created the biggest upset in the boxing world, but defeating Tyson. Now, there has to be a meaning in everything you do. That’s the point of this. And if you make the meaning big and bigger, and greater, you create your chances of creating success go high, logically, you might be there. But then emotionally when you bring your emotions, your beliefs in the game, listen on the day, anybody who’s running 100-meter race in Olympic for the Olympic gold medal, anybody could win why one wins, because they have a better bigger meaning better preparation, obviously, but better meaning because meaning on that day, they won the gold medal. And that was not the day for the rest of the nine people. Very simple.
So look into emotions, look into your belief systems, strengthen them as much as you can, and of course, keep your logic intact. But then if you hold on to your beliefs and emotions and you keep on spending them on a daily basis, you create the success that you are looking at, or whatever the outcome you’re seeking. That’s all for now. Hopefully, today’s podcast will motivate you. We’ll come back tomorrow and we’ll talk a little bit more. But then yeah, I’m a boxing enthusiast myself and that’s why this all this is coming. That’s where I’m coming from. Okay. Talk soon, bye now.
