Use Your Million Dollar Asset

Here is the complete transcript of the podcast

Welcome, welcome back happy Friday morning to you today on the podcast, we are talking about a million-dollar asset that you already have, and that you are not using. So if you are a regular listener, and you have been with me through this journey, this podcast became a daily podcast, starting first of January 2022. And ever since I’ve been coming every day here and talking about different concepts, different ideas, sometimes talking about some resources, sometimes doing some interviews. So it has been a journey. So along the way, at some point, I also kept on talking about different authors, different books that influenced me, that got me started, that gave me the confidence that gave me the courage to do what I do today, in several aspects of my life, and I’ve been talking about those authors, I’ve been talking about those books. So today, I want to talk about a book, an author who changed. The first time I read the book changed my life. And this is not the first time I talk, I’m talking about this book or about this author. The book we are talking about today is how to change confidence, how how to have confidence and power in dealing with people. This was a book that was written in the 60s, I believe, or 50s. And the author of this book, let’s Giblin, I read this book for the very first time. And I somehow felt I need to read this book a second time. And I read this book is the only book I read a second time. And then the first book I’ve ever read a second time, like an end to end page to page. And then I kept on reading this book so many times that I don’t know, these days, every time I get on, on a radio show, or on this podcast or even face, every time I speak, literally, anytime I speak on getting on a stage, there are some things that automatically just simply like that just unconsciously flow from this book. It’s such a powerful book. And over the years, I give multiple copies of this book on my radio shows.

So that’s how powerful this book is. And why am I telling you this, I want you to get this book, I want you to read this book? So today, I want to share something with you, that changed my life. And now depending on whether you read this book, on Kindle, or online, there is at least the copy that I have on page number 81. So this is a paperback. And this is page number 81 This Is what I’m referring to in this book. But this is chapter seven, and this chapter seven of this book is about how to make the other fellow feel friendly instantly. Okay. And in this chapter on page 76, Lois Gibson says, work miracles with a smile, guy. And then later little later on, on to page number 80. He says Use your million-dollar asset. Okay, so he says, if you’re not using your smile, you are like a man with a million dollars in the bank. And no checkbook is smiling is the million-dollar asset in your human relations inventory. From long experience in dealing with people and in teaching people how to develop their smiles in my human relations and sales clinics, I have come to the conclusion that everyone has a million-dollar smile locked up inside him. Such a powerful message right there. Now I want to tell you something I never had. I when I read this book a couple of times two or three times I never believed in this, that you need to have a million-dollar smile. And I’d go back and look at all my photos from my childhood, like not my childhood teenage years and then in my 20s None of the photos from my teenage years and my 20s I was smiling. I was never smiling. I was an angry man. I was like, I don’t know it’s not anger, anger. It’s not for sure. Not smiling. But sure it’s not anger, but somehow I was like very reserved. And after that, this book changed. Now, in this chapter, he talks about he says starting today, begins to develop a genuine smile by practicing before your bathroom Do you know what a real smile looks like? When you see one, your mirror will tell you whether your smile is real or phony. Also, going through the motions of smiling will get you in the habit and actually make you feel more like smiling. Now I’m going to go on record and say this, I never stopped smiling. Ever since I read this book for the third time. Now, I know exactly when that is, I go into the timeline and look at all the photos.

Now I was not and I was not smiling at all. And then I started to practice this in front of the mirror. I would like to open my teeth and keep looking in the mirror for hours together for hours literally. And for days together monsters gather, eventually, I did our people. Social media happen on Facebook happened. This was pre-social media, which I’m sharing with you here. And through social media, every time there was a photo that I posted, or any events and seminars, or workshops, you cannot find Well, you look at any of my photos, and it is a gentleman’s smile. There is a genuine smile that has been practiced, that is connected to the soul. And I credit this book, and this message to Les Gibson for simply changing and instilling this bell helping me to recognize the million-dollar asset, I never knew I could do this, and it changed my life. Hopefully, you are listening to this.

Hopefully, this will. Now there are many other experts later on in the recent year, there are some TED Talks. And there are some I heard a TED talk also, some lady talking about, you know, just keeping your mouth just keeping your teeth wide will make you smile, it takes you out of a depressive state, just opening your mouth and smiling just simply open like II just opening your teeth and simply saying he and you it just shift the entire face your face and everything. And just if you keep your teeth open, like this, he just makes a sound so that because you can’t see me. But if it’s if you open your mouth, you open the teeth and keep it like that. It’s just a matter of time before you start smiling.

So I also read that of course, there is some good information there. But let’s give them got me started this book got me started. So get this book, and build up the million-dollar asset you have it. You know there are so many other different dimensions angles, Liz Kaplan talks about and it’s an incredible book. Okay, stop here. I don’t want to go on a rant here. Keep repeating myself. Go enjoy your Friday. And before you know it, I’ll be with you here tomorrow. Right here. Keep listening. Keep liking keep sharing. keep subscribing. Bye now.

Why People Resist Change? How To Overcome It

Here is the complete transcript of the podcast

On the podcast today, I’m answering a question that came in a long time ago, not in the context of this podcast. But a listener of my radio show emailed me asking me a question. And this was in my inbox for over a year. And I was scanning my inbox for something else, I came across this question. And I thought it makes sense to talk about this in the podcast because I don’t think I ever did or talked about anything like this before. So the question is, I got a job after a long time. But I got a job that is paying me well but has put me in a situation where I don’t know what to do. uglier in the job roles I used to deliver projects. Now I have to lead multiple managers and their projects. I’m running into multiple different conflicts. And I wanted your advice on what can I do to overcome the conflict and make sure that I can instill some change. And this is a problem when this is the unknown that you deal with? Now, this question is long, because and this individual is asking me the question is describing the backstory also, they have been out of a job for a long time, they got the job. And they are three months into this job. And this job is not a full-time job. It’s a consulting job. So that’s the background. Okay, so let’s get into this. And I’ll explain what’s going on. Now. You see, if you’re new in your career, you want to grow. And sometimes you choose the path of growing in the management line, you want to manage people, you want to manage budgets, you want to manage, you know, different directives from above. And it becomes challenging when you do not have the right skills. And sometimes even though you can acquire those skills, it takes time. But then, if you’re not naturally inclined to manage people, it becomes difficult.

Now, if you’re in a position to influence like influences and natural in you, and you can really get the message very nicely, and can get communicate that in a nice manner in a way that people listen, people act on act upon, then it’s great. So if you’re a natural influencer, then these things are very, it’s easy. But most people struggle with this. So now how can you bring in change? Well, before we talk about change, and I really don’t know what changes this is, this specific gentleman was asking about. But any change, every change, there is an element of resistance. And there is resistance because a change is going to impact a group of people or a subgroup of people in any organization. Mostly it impacts a subgroup of people. And if people from those, that subgroup, spread rumors, they resist change and all that. So there’s a lot of unwanted activity coming from that group. And rightfully so because there is a possibility that they may be losing their job. So naturally, job security plays a role. Maybe they have a certain level of interpersonal dynamic that exists in that group, they don’t want to break that. And any change can break the dynamic. So they want to preserve the dynamic. And sometimes what I’ve seen personally, as I’m consulting with organizations, I’ve seen that people who are put in given the responsibility to make a change or bring a change, that’s the right word bring a change, they are not tactful. Also. And sometimes change is hard because there are personality conflicts happening. And sometimes timing itself is off. So you can’t bring a change no matter how good you are, no matter how much support you have. So there are multiple different things playing out or usually playing out. Every time we talk about change.

So first of all, I want to tell if you are facing something like this at home, let’s talk about that even at home or at work. Even though the question was more about work. Bringing in a change is hard because there are people involved. Now at work, we expect people to be logical, and professional at home. We want people to be emotional, and also logical, which is funny. But you will start to realize that a majority of people are not as logical as they should be regardless of where they are. So every time we talk about an individual we are talking about emotions and emotions play a dominant role. Law CIC does, but very rarely, you see an extremely logical individual making extremely logical decisions difficult. And so let’s talk about these things for a second, why personality conflicts happen because people have different agendas. And you need to spend time to understand each person’s agenda and difficult for managers too, to bring in change, if they themselves do not. They themselves have conflicts with other managers. So, at an organizational level is difficult to bring in general managers who are not cooperating and not in sync, that has to be studied, you need to invest time in that. Now, as far as individual people who are resisting change, then they might be doing that because of job security. Very natural, very natural, we don’t want change, because change inflicts make us insecure, and they don’t, nobody wants to deal with insecurity. And any change may also involve moving people around. And also they do not lie, because there are dynamics that have been established. Now, I’ve also seen something interesting. Sometimes people resist change because even though they are in the job, they are doing something else. And by change, or agreeing to change whatever they are doing somewhere else that may be compromised. So I had one time, somebody told me this, he said, I’m in this job for 14 years. And I said you’re doing this for 14 years, you’re not promoted, you’re not going up the ladder, you know, is it not hurting you? Or is it not of concern to you? And he says, no, no, I have a consulting company on the side. Okay, and I’m like, wow, and do you make money with it? It’s like, No, I don’t, I don’t have four or five people there. But what he was telling me, and by not telling me was, I take all the nonsense here, but I make money here. And I go there and resolve all my nonsense there because I’m the boss there.

So I’m the CEO there. I’m just an entry-level worker here, something like that. It’s mind-boggling to me how we balance our self-esteem and how we balance our ego. But clearly, you see, the different people are having different agendas, and you’ll find them. But the most important part in all this is you as a change maker, you have to be tactful. Now, how do you become tactful? What’s the secret to becoming tactful? The secret is that you become sensitive to people’s concerns. That you spend time with people and learning and exploring them and learning not only what they’re saying, but also what they’re not saying. And once you do that, it does a couple of things. One it gives you an insight into people’s thinking, and what you’re dealing with. But most importantly, it does also create confidence, their confidence in you your confidence in yourself to accomplish this task, this process, whatever you’re trying to bring the change that you’re trying to bring, and you become likable. That’s the most important part and you will be trusted. So you earn the trust, you’re likable, you show concern and all these things in their small little way. They remove resistance from the change, and it flows. And when it flows, you know it’s flowing. So I hope this is helpful to you if you’re not, well, if you’re not in a job, and I am saying this to you. It doesn’t matter. You own a business, you run it, you have a job you’re on you are in a relationship, you have a family, and all that doesn’t matter. Every time you’re dealing with people, you see these patterns play out. Even if you’re on a charity, even if you’re running an organization doesn’t matter. These things play out. You know, people are people with blood everywhere, and for any level of success. But in the level of success, success is always through people for people. So there’s no success without people’s bottom line so the skills have to be mastered.

Hopefully, this is helpful. If it is let me know. And before you know it, I’ll be with you as early as tomorrow. Tomorrow’s a Friday. I’ll keep this small and to the point. Stay tuned.

Define What “ACTION” Means To You

Here is the complete transcript of the podcast

Today on the podcast, I want to share with you one of the greatest personal experiences that I had, through the products that I was pursuing the goals that I was trying to achieve, and the things that I was doing to get there over the years. And, I experienced this very late. And that shouldn’t be the case. So if you are a listener of this podcast, and you are, you know, you set goals, you go after your goals, and urine is coming up. So you probably are gearing up to do something big, starting next year. Wherever you are on your journey right now. This, what I’m going to share with you now is going to completely give a different perspective to everything that you’ve got going. So on the podcast, I’m sharing with you that I was having difficulty coming up with a name for this podcast episode. And I decided to name it this way, pre-launch checklist before taking any action, or anything like that. So what it means is you have a goal, you have a bunch of actions that you have to take, you have things figured out and you know you’re doing that anyway. But then it’s nice to have a checklist to go after so that you are ready, you can launch the action, not just do just take the action, but launch the action.

See, launching the action is different than taking action. Everybody takes action. But very few understand the concept that took me a while took me a while to figure this out. So I came up with five questions checklist that has been used for a long time, I’m gonna share it with you. So here they are. The first one is before I give you an example, let’s take an example. Let’s say you want to work out today want to work out today, that means you’re taking action. And you will work out for an hour. So you’re about to go to the gym. You figured you planned this for a few days now. So this is today. And this hour is your workout exercise as you’re getting ready to go. The first and foremost thing, the first question on the checklist you have to ask is Do I have the time to act on this? Now there’s a difference between blocking the time versus acting on whatever times are blocked, what happens is, let’s say you’re trying to work out for 60 minutes in the gym. But you have something else that has come up right after this. And you need to go there right away. But you have to take a shower and go there, you may not have time. Now what will happen is, you know, you’re going to cut your time at the gym. And you have to rush to this meeting. So the stacking has not happened properly. Or you did plan for this but you really were not expecting something else to come up. So, so close to this activity. And now you’re not sure.

Now you can still go to the gym, which people do. But that cuts short their time and they leave the here’s the problem with people in the gym. They go there, they want to spend, you know, they want to go there they go that they have a good feeling they went to the gym, but they really do not do much in the gym, they just go around and you know, spend a few minutes here and there, this machine that machine, they try a few things and they go home. And they do that for a few days. And they start to believe that oh, it’s not working, I need to I don’t know if I’m not doing this right, maybe seek some help or help is expensive. And eventually, they give up. So you got to ask, Do I really have the time to do this? Now that’s the last thing on a checklist. The second one is do I have the energy to do this now? Do I have the energy that this action needs? If I’m feeling lethargic, I’m feeling lazy. I’m feeling low. There’s no point in going to the gym and in making the condition even worse. There’s no money to go there. So I wouldn’t. I wouldn’t. But God asked the question if this principle applies to everything, just not the gym. We need time, we need energy. And the third one, which is a big one is very applicable to the gym thing but also everywhere else. Do I have or am I properly accused to do this? So, there are certain activities that you will be doing in the gym, for which you need to be dressed differently. And likewise, you know, if I’m doing strength training in the gym, I, I, you know, have a different set of clothes. And if I’m running different sets of clothes, and all that, I can’t be prepared for one activity and go there and do the other one. And people do that. And sometimes people don’t have this awareness. You know, this is what I had, this is what I’m going to put on. And this is how I’m going to show up. And this is what I’m going to do. And the sad part is that don’t do so very important that you have your equipment, or whether you’re properly cubed to do this. The next one, the checklist is, why am I doing this, instead of back? This is a powerful question, I asked this question every time I step into the gym, or on the trail, or on the running trail or hiking trail wherever I go, or even on the mountains, ask the question, Why am I doing this, instead of doing that? Why this? Why not that?

Now, that is we don’t know what that is, that could be sitting in front of the TV and watching Netflix, or something else, or sitting in the coffee shop. having coffee, that could be anything. But this, this wide this? The reason why I asked this question is the minute I ask this question, why am I doing this? The answer is clearly in the mind, the answer comes to the forefront, I want to feel good, I want to stay healthy. I want to overcome laziness, I want to have higher energy. I want to you know all that so so look good, feel good, be energetic, lose weight, become healthy, and live longer. All these things come to mind. But people forget why they go to the gym, and why they do what they are doing. Because there is a bigger reasoning behind all this, there’s a bigger meaning behind this and that big meaning. When that big meaning becomes dominant in the mind, then the activity becomes easy or easier. And the last one of the checklist is can I communicate? Completion? can I communicate now communicate is that the word here, I underlined that, can I communicate? People say I go to the gym. People say I died. People say things but people do not say I went to the gym and I ran nonstop for an hour. I ran 10 miles in the gym. They don’t say that. That I’m not saying they’re not achieving that. But they need to be telling someone and most importantly themselves. So most of the time even at projects at work, people communicate activity. I go to the gym, like going to the gym is an activity that we’re conveying. But what did you do in the gym? People tell me I went on a hike. Okay, how far did you go? How soon? How quickly did you go? How long did it take? I asked those questions. Oh, you know, I went to this point and turned back, and why? Well, because it was getting dark or it was getting windy, whatever. And it took me a lot of time because there was no parking, they tell a story. And they all tell a story. This event. It sounds good though. But you got to communicate. And you use it better to communicate completion, accomplishment, not process, not activity. And I launch myself from that point on that’s it. I launch, like to take action. If at least the top four criteria, match. Then I’m good. I’m good to go. And I go and power it into anything.

Okay, I hope this helps. This completely changed my approach to getting things done. And I’m sharing it with you because you’re brand new, you’re restarting. And you have so many things on your mind. This will help you for sure. Okay, I want to stop here you go enjoy your day and launch yourself. And before you know it, I’ll be with you as early as tomorrow. Keep listening.
