This One Habit That Will Set You Apart
Here is the complete transcript of the podcast
Welcome back to success with Srini. Happy Sunday morning to you. Today on the podcast, I want to share with you one incredible thing, one amazing thing that if you do consistently, for maybe a month or two, even for a week, it will set you apart in your game. Whatever game you’re playing right now, maybe a job, maybe a business, maybe some problems, some challenges you’re dealing with in your life right now and you are looking to kind of escape from the pain from the suffering, it will not only do that for you but will set you apart, maybe you’re looking for next-level success, it’s going to do that for you. And the more I talk about this, the more I share this with people on my radio shows at my seminars, even on this podcast, people don’t do it. They don’t do it. They love listening to this, but they don’t do it. And I promise you, listen, I will bet my life on this. If you do this, do it for a month. And if life doesn’t change, you don’t excel in whatever area that you are in right now. You come back, you blame me I take the blame.
Now, this one thing is you reading a book. And you do that daily, maybe 30 minutes in the morning, in the evening, doesn’t matter. 30 minutes a day, just to read once a day for 30 minutes for the next 30 days, your life will change I promise you. Now what kind of books, usually it doesn’t matter. I’m talking about the habit in itself, eventually, finding the right book, but then read 30 minutes of something that will improve you. Self-improvement books, you read for 30 days, 30 minutes a day, your life will change. I’ve been on this podcast numerous times talking about this topic. I get questions, what kind of books should I read? You read what you want to read. But reading in itself is what I’m talking about. The content of the book is a whole different discussion altogether. And again, my answer is always to read self-improvement books. But then read business books, read career books, read relationship books, books that will enrich you and empower you. People tell me they don’t have time to readjust 20 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, you start the day reading the book early in the morning, wake up 30 minutes early, read some few pages, then continue to read a few more pages in the days along the way, and then maybe close out the day with maybe a few more pages.
Now, sometimes people do tell me that they have this fear that they cannot complete the book. And I’m also a victim of that. And I have many books on we used to have many books, which I bought, I never opened the books, I bought the book got excited, beautiful cover, great author, great title, got the book, never opened the book. And I had those books forever, eventually, at some point in my life. And after many, many years of accumulating all these books, I decided it was time for me to give them away. takes real estate doesn’t do any good. And the more I look at these books, the more I feel depressed because I should have used my time properly and I did not get those books away. So now, lately, my mindset is I don’t need to finish a book. I do try to finish a book. But that’s not a criterion for me anymore. And with that mindset, I read a lot. My goal is not to finish the book. And I don’t want to get into that mindset of okay if I have to start if I started this book, I have to finish this book before I can read another book. And I cannot I neither finish this book nor can read the next book. So to these days, I have segmented my time early in the morning self-improvement afternoon, a chapter or two from a business book, evening, a chapter or two from some aspects of again some self-improvement. So the different segments.
So to be more precise, early morning, mostly inspirational books, afternoon, entrepreneurial books, will late afternoon, a business entity structuring operations that kind of a book late in the evening productivity books, something like that. Those are the categories, high-level categories. And I read one chapter from each book. The goal is obviously to read all these books to completion. But even if I do not complete I’m still deriving value from these books. At one point in time, I was reading one book a week and I’ve lost my momentum at that pace at some point I also considered taking I did take a class on spirituals But then I never really used it at a level that I should have applied myself at that level. So I think overall, my reading ability has gone up. But then I don’t think that’s the criteria, I think the processing part is more important than the reading part. So the processing part also, I end the retention, also. So, retention is what I’m right now focused on not worried about how many lines, how many pages, and all that. So I don’t want to run through a book, only to see that I’ve missed a lot of good nuggets there.
Some people asked me, should I check out the book reviews? And get some recommendations before? My answer is this, read every book that comes your way, eventually, we’ll find a book that you want to read a Second time or third time, when you do find a book that you feel like reading a second or third time, then that becomes your point of reference. That book defines your character, that book defines your base, that book defines your trajectory. That’s how I look at this. There are some questions that I’ve gotten also over time, which is, should I get a Kindle book? Should I listen to the book while I’m reading? Yes, you can do all of that. But make sure that when you are reading, you are reading, it’s okay to listen to that book, while you’re reading, which I recommended in one of the earlier podcast episodes, but then it’s important that you while you’re reading, you are reading here is here’s the point. The reason why I say this is going to set you apart is that most people don’t do this. And because most people are not doing that, which is extremely important. And now that you’re committing to do this yourself, that in itself is a separation. That in itself will put you has already put you in this moment, if you’re deciding to do that. Starting this moment, you are now in an exclusive club of its own. So that’s profound. It’s a starting itself is good.
Now, how is it that you read a good book and don’t learn? How is it possible that you read a book and your brain doesn’t expand? And that you can’t see new possibilities, reading is the fastest way to open your mind to new possibilities, there is nothing else you can listen to. But reading does something different to the mind. There is no other way that I can open myself up to new possibilities. There is so much to learn. Honestly, there is so much to learn. And this life is not sufficient. There is so much to this world to this universe, that one life to life, three lives 10 Lives are insufficient. So my suggestion is this if you already know a book that you think will fascinate you. And you can carve out some time to read that book. You can do justice to that book. Get it? Make it your start. Today’s the start. April 10 2020 to Sunday is the start. Start, I promise you 30 days from today, May 10. Year 2022. Tell me Srini I read the book, a book that I got I read for 30 days. And I’m glad I did. That’s the response I will get from you. I know that.
That’s all for now. I hope today’s wanted to keep it short, and precise. Hopefully, I did. Okay. If you like the podcast episode, do me a favor, read it, write a review on it, and share it. And you have a question for me. Let me know. 888-818-0404 is the number where you can call me you can text me. And I promise you I’m going to take your question. I’m going to record a podcast episode. I’ll make it available here. That’s all for now. Wherever you are, be safe. And I’ll talk to you without fail tomorrow. Bye now.
Weight Loss Success Is All About Beliefs
Here is the complete transcript of the podcast
Welcome back to Success with Srini. Today’s podcast episode is a direct conversation I had with a coaching client of mine yesterday from last evening. And I was in this in-depth conversation around weight gain, and weight loss. So even though the coaching was not about that the coaching was about carrier growth, but then the weight loss discussion came up in the middle. And then there was a new discovery I made about my coaching client, which is they’re going through a different kind of challenge, which is interfering with the goals that they have set for themselves for their career change. So I started addressing the problem. And I started discovering that a major part of the belief system is incorrect when it comes to weight loss, or weight gain in this specific case, weight loss. So the problem statement is that I have found with weight loss for my entire life, I had some success at the beginning of the year. But then I suddenly realized that in the first week of March, I started gaining, and I ignored that even though it was the scale was going up, I didn’t check. And then just three days ago, I check Srini. And then I’m like, I’m back to where I was in 2018. So this was not a question to me. But then I took it on to myself, and I started dressing this and it came down to telling them to make some changes. And I’m going to walk through some of the suggestions I gave this individual. So the majority of the understanding about weight loss was incorrect. And the question was not about what to do but how do I go back and get back to the same situation I was at the beginning of the year when I was like at the end of January when I was in the best shape? How do I get back to that it’s not about looking for a strategy or a technique, it’s more about just getting the belief that I can do it again?
Now understand that this individual has gone through multiple different programs, and over the years had weight loss, you know, had a program lost weight, they could not sustain came back gain, weight loss weights, all kind of patterns have evolved over a period of time. So here are a few things that most people have in this state of mind. And I want to call those things out on this podcast episode today. The first and foremost thing is, that people believe that they need to have everything in place before they can get started with fitness before they can get started with weight loss. Everything is in place. So the mind goes like this. I know what needs to be done. But I cannot do that. Because I sleep late at night. I can’t wake up early in the morning. Because I can’t wake up early in the morning. I don’t go to the gym early in the morning. Now, I cannot go to the gym early in the morning, or I don’t work out early in the morning, it doesn’t make any sense to work hard throughout the day, because my date, my schedule is busy. So people struggle with the routines. Because they don’t have one. And they think that in order to bring anything new in, they have to alter the routine. So they can never alter the routine because that’s the default behavioral pattern. So the response, they give each time to themselves or others is that I need to have everything in place before I can get started. I understand I need to lose weight, I understand I need to become fit. But then I need to take care of many things before I go there. Okay, that’s one that’s belief.
The second thought process or the second belief is I’m too out of shape to work out. Why are you suggesting I work out? I’m out of shape. I’m not going to see any changes in the way you are suggesting that I go work hard for 20 minutes or 30 minutes. I do that every day. I don’t see any I will not see any change. I know that because I’m too much out of shape. See, the point is this. It doesn’t matter over a period of the next 1020 3040 days, you may not see a change. But then it’s very hard that you to do something consistently over a long period of time and not see a change eventually. So started the podcast example. Didn’t see a lot of change right away. But it’s impossible that we are already into the fourth month of this podcast is impossible. And we do that every day I record this podcast. So it’s impossible not to see a change and the graph is showing the change. Now, the graph is showing that we had 900 downloads in January 1400 downloads in February, and nearly 1700 or some odd downloads in the month of March. And April is off to a great start. So it’s there. It’s visible now in the graph. So you got to put in the basic minimum stuff, and you do that incrementally, over and over and over again every day till you get to the point where you start to see a change impossible to hide the change. If you put your effort and your time into something, you know that regularly with that kind of discipline, and then I hear, I don’t have time to cook because 90% of weight loss happens in the kitchen. So people who cook their food, who control their calorie intake, and control the quality of the calories usually lose weight, we know that they have greater success than other people. So if that is the case, then you should be cooking food. And the complaint I hear and people say this is I don’t have time to cook.
See, there are a lot of things in your life right now for which you don’t have time, but you still do them, because they’re on your neck. This is something that you can avoid. And this, you think it’s not on your neck, it will be on your neck, by the time you reach a point where your blood sugar levels shift, God forbid, your blood pressure shifts, or whatever I just I don’t know somehow that the word is not coming to my mind. But you get the point, right did date internal data shifts. Now guess what? Now it is shifting because you didn’t do something at the beginning. Cholesterol, that’s the word cholesterol here, see that? See, if you really look into things, if you start really analyzing things, you’ll see that majority of the actions that we take on a daily basis, don’t take a lot of time, it’s just that we make up things in our mind. So you’re burning 1000 calories in three hours, you understand you can burn 1000 calories in 30 minutes, or in 15 minutes. There are activities that you should be doing to condense the out the time duration, yet keeping the same throughput or output you should be. So it’s all about either figuring out celebrating a few things, or not doing a few things or starting to do things a little bit earlier so that you find time to cook then this coaching client yesterday, see, in the last one month, I have been sort of shape that I will never be able to get back in shape. Seen never is a cry for help. Never. So the minute you say never means you are believing you like strengthening your mind not to do something that is otherwise, you know is important. See, if you’re in a bad shape, you’re in a bad health. Anything that you do is good enough, anything a little bit. That’s why we say hypnosis and weight loss, we say all you had to do is go to the gym and get on the treadmill for 60 seconds, every day. That’s the bare minimum thing you have to do go to the gym and get on the treadmill for 60 seconds, it’s impossible to get on a treadmill for 60 seconds and only get on there for 60 seconds because I told you, it looks silly that you go to a gym, you drive like 10 minutes to the gym, or 20 minutes to the gym and get on a treadmill for 60 seconds, it doesn’t make any sense. So you do more you see. So if you clean up your diet a little bit, you clean up your activities a little bit. And you get going okay, and most people say, I’m so out. And I’m so out of rhythm and out of the cycle and I can’t get back in shape is because they’re thinking too much of themselves that time that they have on their hand. I’m not thinking about what I can do in 90 days or six months with weight loss. I’m I need to know what I’m doing over the next five days. next seven days next week. This week. That’s my only measure. I’m not measuring myself. You know, if I do this for the next six months, will I lose weight? That’s too big of a question to ask. And it’s such so many things that could happen over the next six months. It’s hard. So next five days, what can I do? Can I stay honest with myself? Can I stay consistent with activities as the question and then obviously, I don’t know how to get started. This podcast hopefully episode will help you if you want to. If you’re looking to get started. Just you want to get started.
Hopefully, this motivates you. I would start with the walk. I would start with a walk after every meal. I would start with just walking around the block and then slowly making it faster over the next few days. And after a few weeks a little bit faster and a little bit later. A little bit faster. Write something like that some pattern I’ll come up with in my mind and the soul I will do and do it consistently for over a long period. Fine, but then with a goal in mind, just not for the sake of doing. But then your goal is to improve that which you are doing. To improve your pace, increase the duration, bring in some complexity in the activity, maybe a little bit of, you know, bigger incline terrain, things like that. So you know how to get started, there isn’t that there isn’t a magical thing. Of course, you can’t go and just, you know, lift to a 200-pound benchpress starting from nothing thought, but then what a period of time you can do it. And you have to start. And then I also hear that this also came up yesterday in the call in, you know, all this is too complicated. Yeah. It’s complicated because you think that your knowledge is insufficient. When it comes to weight loss, or weight gain, or anything in life, no, you have knowledge. It’s not like anybody, I don’t think that anybody listens to this podcast, or ghost on the internet, or does research, like, whatever, because they lack knowledge. I don’t think weight loss is, is such a so ingrained thing in our day-to-day life that everybody knows how to lose weight, listen, you take less in, and you give away more than whatever is left is lost. Right. So you eat less, and you work out more. So your intake calorie intake is less, and your calorie output is high. And if you do that for a long amount of time, you’re going to lose weight, provided there’s no other medical condition going on. There’s no other condition going on. If this is if everything is normal, this is the only thing that needs to be done. And along the way, you kickstart the metabolism and this and so many other things. But then this is the basic math is basic fundamental math. And again, you’re burning calories anyway, all you have to do is you want to kind of accelerate the body by default, naturally burns calories, it seeks calories, it burns calories, so it is burning. All you have to do is kind of accelerate that part or kind of enhance the part. So my request to you is this, I want you to start examining your beliefs when it comes down to this concept called weight loss. And I want you to take yourself seriously and you start excusing yourself from this belief system where you know, I can’t do this. It’s very hard. It’s complicated. I need more knowledge. I need help. All that. Excuse yourself for this belief system. It’s doable. People have done it. People 85 years, 90 years old, have lost weight people who are 12 years, 14 years 16 years have lost weight. Everything any possible scenario that you are going through right now has been experienced by other people before there’s nothing but no secret to this. The secret is that you make up your mind and you apply yourself to the outcome.
Okay, that’s all for now. Have a wonderful Saturday, and I will talk to you tomorrow. I promise you I’m not gonna make the podcast. This intense. Okay, that’s all for now. Bye
The Ultimate Success Secret
Here is the complete transcript of the podcast
Welcome back to Success with Srini. Today on the podcast, I want to share with you the ultimate secret, the ultimate, if there is one like that, well, before I go and share this secret with you, which by the way will help you to create success in any aspect of your life doesn’t matter, you’re looking for a job, you’re trying to make an investment. Maybe you want to start a business soon. Or maybe you’re dealing with a family situation, whatever it is, everywhere, regardless of the situation, this is going to create success for you.
Now, before I go and explain what this is all about, I’ll tell you where this is coming from. Recently, this past weekend, I was at a concert. And I was speaking to a lot of people. And at one point in time, I got into a long conversation with the gentleman in the hallway. And he asked me a question. He said, Really, what’s the ultimate secret? And I said, Listen, when I started my journey, I was reading a lot of books, I was listening to a lot of people. And even though I was doing a lot of stuff, I was engaged. But then I was looking for that one thing, that one amazing, secret, or the ultimate secret or the greatest secret, whatever it is. And I’ll tell you, I couldn’t find any. I don’t have any ultimate secret to anything. Every individual, whoever I spoke to, had their own secret, I’ll tell you my secret if you want to know. But I don’t claim this to be the ultimate secret. So this is what I told this gentleman in the hallway, I want to share it with you. The ultimate secret is that you write down everything that’s happening in your life. You write down everything, anything that’s happening in your life.
So if you have listened to some earlier podcasts that have been done here, I talked about goal setting in multiple podcasts, episodes at the start of the year, talking about goal setting, different kinds of goals, emotional, physical, mental, spiritual, financial, and social, all those goals I talked about very early on, as a part of this podcast. Now, that should be in place, your goals should be in place, and they should be at this point written down somewhere. Now that those goals are in place, there is something else you have to do on a daily basis. And that is tracking your activity to match those goals. So every day, you wake up, and you do the activity, whatever the activity is, and then you write down how the time was used and how you used your effort, your energy, and the time for that given day. Now, again, a little bit earlier on this podcast, I talked about to-do lists. So before I start the day, I have a to-do list. And the to-do list has everything clearly called out some strategic some tactical stuff, like things that I have to do anyway. And things that are operational, for example, I have to cook I have to clean, I have to give medicines to my dad, whatever it is those activities are all called out in my to-do list. Those are operational things.
Obviously, the podcast, this podcast is also a line item. This is the to-do daily to-do. So this is operational stuff. But then there are some creative things that I need to do on a daily basis. For example, I need to send an email, I need to do a webinar or I need to do a seminar, whatever it is, I have to plan for those. There is a line item there on my to-do list. But then there’s also maybe 30 minutes or 60 minutes of time allocated for the activity. So at the beginning of the day, before the night before the new day, I have a to-do list. And then on the day, I follow the to-do list, and I get the things done as many as I can. At the end of the day, I write down everything that I accomplished and everything I did not and I’d write a narrative at the end of the day saying this is my new learning. These are some mistakes I made these are something that I could have improved but I did not today. So I measure so let’s say one of the to-do items was to go hike.
And at the end of the day, I know exactly how much I liked the amount of time the amount of distance the number of calories I burned. My heart rate when I was going up and coming down and whatever my heart, the lowest and when I started the highest I touched my heart rate, all of that I have data. The beauty of all this is some of the activities are tracked by sensors on our body, like My watch, my smartwatch tracks, all my calorie burn some activities, I need to track, for example, the input of my calories, I have to track all that. But then the point is, at the end of the day, I write down everything. And now what I do is over a period of a long time, maybe across 20 days, or 30 days later, like two, three weeks later, I know exactly where I started, I know exactly where I have, I am at that point in time. So I know the delta I know, you know, the way I progressed. So if I have a to-do item of going to the gym, and I do not go to the gym, it’s there already. It’s Clear, it’s there, and then in the write-up. So I have these journals that I write, and I should have done this earlier. And this could have accelerated my growth, not talking about success, but growth in general, in a much bigger way, in a much faster way, in a much deeper way, than, me doing it now at this part of my time.
So if you study all the successful people, you will see that, obviously, they all read a lot, they all many other things they do. But then there’s also something about ultra-successful people, which is that they write. So that’s the secret is anything that you are trying to achieve today, I want you to start writing, as you’re making progress. Now as you’re writing, you start to see, it’s very difficult to report your own activity to your own self because you are the boss. Because you can’t lie to yourself. When you write, you can lie to yourself, and you tell yourself Self things. So if I would tell myself, everything I’ve done today, up till this point, there could be some discrepancies. But when you sit down and write and you’re writing and you’re starting looking into the data, you can’t lie. You know, it’s something about writing, you cannot.
Now, at this point, you might be thinking, what are the different tools? What kind of a journal do I need to buy to write, it doesn’t matter. The medium doesn’t matter as such. So I use an app on my iPhone to track my day to day activities the app is called to do. So go look it up. I think the To-Do app is also available on Android too. So it’s there. So the medium doesn’t matter. How long should you write? How short should you write? Doesn’t matter write as comfortable as you are, but be honest to yourself. Now writing part is also on a schedule. So the night at the end of the day, I write down maybe four or five or seven lines. But then that part is also scheduled right before I go to bed, I write down everything that I’ve done for the day. Now, is it possible that some days you do not you cannot write and you’re busy or traveling? All that is fine, it’s okay. Don’t make missing? Right writing the journal is a habit. Don’t make don’t turn that into a habit. But as long as you are keeping up, you’re keeping a record of everything that you’re doing on a daily basis. Occasionally, one or two days you miss, that’s okay. But then you got to stay honest about the process.
Now, two things it does. One is it tells you immediately the modifications you have to make tomorrow. And the day after gives you it gives you a graph, makes things that you can change. So that means your reaction time drastically goes down towards achieving any goal. So it’s not like you are working towards a goal. And at the last minute, you figured out that you’re lacking 20 different things. In this kind of approach you don’t, you will not lack 20 different things because you’re catching the problem at the near end, not the forehand. So this is the secret. This is the ultimate secret. There isn’t an ultimate secret. In fact, there isn’t. There is no, there is no secret to anything. And this whole thing around. I know the ultimate secret and there is this greatest secret ever found. There isn’t this is life. It has its own flow.
Now, I did share this with other people too in the past. And people ask this question I got this question also, is who should read the journal? Not? My father wrote journals. And I have never read those journals. I don’t know why he was writing. He wrote it for 25 years. And I have all the journals around and I never read those journals because I don’t know what I’m going to encounter there. And I don’t know how I don’t want to change my opinion on anything. So I have not read the journals, honestly. And that might be some history there. There should be some references to things that I can discover, and all that’s all fine, which I’ve done also. But then this is a journal that you write for yourself. You’re going to read it and you probably are going to destroy it. So this is for you, by you, and will go away with you. So keep it private, keep it secure, and privacy and security. These are definitions that are only meaningful to you. Okay, I can’t define what privacy is and what security is for you. So it’s your own definition of yours. So that’s all. Hopefully, this is helpful. Hopefully, this helps. Hopefully, you can see where I’m coming from. Do this. Do it for about maybe 20 days or 30 days before it becomes a habit. And then you let me know how your life has changed.
That’s all for now on this podcast. We’re going to catch up with the podcast tomorrow I’ll have a new concept, a new idea. Maybe a question from you. I’ll be answering. So wherever you are, be safe. I’ll catch up with you tomorrow. Bye now.
