What Does It Take To Become A Successful Blogger?

Countless number of blogs, websites, forums etc have answered this question in all possible manner. My answer is not ground breaking by any means but I have my own perspective about it.

Talk to experienced writers and avid readers they will tell you that command on the language, representation of a thought, crafting of the tone, pacing the flow of content, building momentum on the idea, representation of the character etc are essential.

Talk to marketers who are trying to make money from bogging. They would guide you in directions such as CMS platform selection, frequency of the post, auto generated content, PLR, Front end offers, Affiliate Feeds, Brokered Adspace, Review posts, Exit popup etc & etc. The list is endless..

Most recently I read the book “Blogging Heroes” by Michael A. Banks. When I scanned through the index of this book I was surprised as I could only recognize about five bloggers by name in the list of Thirty. That’s alarming, go to network more..:)-

Talk to other bloggers in your own niche, they have their own small little stories to share. I too have my very own unconventional methods that have created the little success for me.

    My friend.

How important is the no. of Comments on your posts to gauge the success of your blog? Commercially?

    Cheers!

    Hi Ravi,

I could answer this question in many a ways. One day I will write an elaborate post on this.

The commercial viability of a blog is determined by the number of RSS readers, inword links, Page Rank, technorati rankings, DIGG score etc & etc.

Good comments do play a role in inspiring the blogger to come up with good content. The problem is most of the comments these days are seeded( provided by friends and family) or by some outsourced folks.

Most bloggers go negative in the first 12 months of starting a blog. The number one reason behind this is lack of motivation to write. This lack of motivation is a direct cause of lack of acceptance in the marketplace. Comments are a good medium through which a blogger can validate his acceptance, provided they are pure.

If you carefully see, off late I had not been getting a lot of comments. This is partly becuase I have stopped soliciting comments or incentivising my readers to make any. In addition to that most of my readers are Full RSS readers who hardly land on this site to read my posts. Also I have turned off comments on some of my posts( for SEO purposes)

Marketing expert Seth Godin turned his blog into a viral site by disabling comments on his blog. This is a class act. By turning off comments, he pushed his readers to talk about his posts on other sites. That means more traffic to his site.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers!
