Here is the complete transcript of the podcast
Today’s podcast episode is for you, if you are a professional or you want to become a professional now, how do we know that you are a professional? How does the world know that you’re a professional? Well, you tell them that you are a professional. That’s how the world knows. Question is, how do you know that you are a professional? It’s very simple. That answer, right? So you have years of experience in education, you have credentials, you have certifications, you have some awards, rewards. And yes, on social recognition, all these things add up. And that’s what makes you a professional. I live in Silicon Valley, so a lot of tech professionals around, but there are professionals doing what they do.
So many, many years ago, in one of my seminars, this discussion of enthusiast, passionate, professional, all these different categories that there was a discussion that was around people. And I explained how I describe a professional how I see a professional as a professional. Within its context, let’s talk about that because that was what was going on back then in the seminar. Now, this applies to every field, not just it. So I said there are four things that have to happen for anybody to call themselves a professional. Now, this has nothing to do with how many years of experience he or she has, how long they have been in this line, and what credentials they have none. This is completely unique, completely different. So I shared this in the room, and I’m sharing that with you and telling you why am I doing that today on the podcast, also, still use your to stay with me to the end. The first indicator is that you have been fired from the job that you are doing. Because you made a mistake. It’s your fault. So that’s the first level of your graduating to becoming a professional. That’s level one. You still are not a professional. But this is the first step in your you were a job. And you got fired because you made a mistake. That has happened to me. Okay, let’s go to the next one. You are fired from the job. Because of someone else’s mistake, somebody else made a mistake or committed a fault. You were fired? Why would not? No, that’s not the point. The whole discussion.
So you know, you are not at fault somebody else, but they escaped, you are fired. If this happens, you have now successfully graduated the second step. The third step, yes, you are fired. Because of no one’s fault, you have no idea who made the fault, or who made the mistake. In fact, according to you, nobody made a mistake. But you were let go. That’s the third step. You are now graduating through the steps of becoming a professional. The idea is this. It’s a very simple concept. I want you to understand the humor in this. The humor is at every stage, you are becoming stronger and stronger. So there is this thing there is this layer around you that is becoming thicker and thicker, that you have been now through the grind that you are now being trained by life to deal with situations that you never expected. Now, this has nothing to do with as I said nothing to do with your talent, skill, or experience. You might be having all of that you might be the best in the game. Still, these things are happening to you. That’s how you know that you are evolving. The last one is also the last one, which is you are fired. And then you’re hired back. That’s the last page if that happens to you, that means you are truly professional. You are amazing. There is something about you that nobody else has. I’m telling you what has happened to you. All these four stages have happened to me. Okay. All these things have happened to me in some shape or form. Okay, and that’s how I was sharing the story in the room. Now, why is this podcast episode like this today?
Well, two days ago, I came across something on the internet where this young man was working for a company with a second employee of the company, I think this is in the state of Ohio. And he is working for a company that does payments, like payment processing. And he was called in and he was let go, right? He thought he had an easy job, just going to businesses and convincing them, Hey, make this move, we’ll save you money, whatever. But along the way, he couldn’t really produce sales. And he moved in with his girlfriend, he was renting a place and his girlfriend was working in Wells Fargo as a temp. And he was working here. So he goes into the office, and the boss tells him, hey, I need to let you go. Because whatever, I don’t know what the glands are to the article. But then, at that moment, the boss realizes that there are, you know, even though this, this individual is not good for this position, but there is one more position that they’re in the company, maybe he’s good for that. And that’s what goes through the mind of this boss. So he decides to make an offer after firing him in that meeting. And this gentleman goes home, talks to his girlfriend comes back, and accepts the other position, which is a customer service position, where he’s getting less money, but has the job sick picks up the job. And he was fired and hired in the same meeting. And explanation the boss gives is there is something about this individual that he could not deny. So he had to make that offer. And five years later, you know, this individual is not the director of operations or strategy or something like that. He is married. And everything is great. So there is a happy ending to the story, an incredible ending. And this is a five, six-year-old story that played out over six years, something like that. I was reading this, that got that reminded me of this seminar I did many, many years ago and the specific thing that I shared in the seminar. So that’s how this podcast happened. Hopefully, this motivates you. If this inspires you.
The idea is to inspire you a bit. And then that’s all so you go have an incredible Tuesday and I will catch up with you before you know it. Before you know it.
