Here is the complete transcript of the podcast
Welcome back, everyone. Happy Sunday morning to you on the podcast today, I want to extend my thought from yesterday, yesterday’s podcast, if you have seen the title, it is about mentorship, why you need to have mentors, and why the environment is important equally. And this was a question that I got, which I placed on the radio. And Rajiv, who heard the radio show called in, and he shared his insights. And towards the end, I was supposed to come back and make a comment, which I couldn’t. Well, I did, but my time was running out on the show. So yesterday, I talked about how growth happens. Growth demands a certain level of, the surrender of security, and all that. So I kind of expressed some of my thoughts around it. But still, I felt something was not done, something was incomplete. So I thought I want to extend the thought and share some of the things that were actually there in my mind, but I couldn’t get them out at a time when I was recording the podcast yesterday, since then, all day yesterday. And now.
So see, when you talk about mentorship, and results, and coaching and all, clearly, you know, if somebody has the skill, somebody has the talent, and that skill, talent, that has to be channeled in a certain way for a certain outcome. That’s where mentorship comes in. That’s where coaching comes in. I don’t think anybody asked me this question. But once I was on a stage, and I was doing a seminar, and I think this was from the cloud, or maybe not, I remember vaguely making this comment. It said if given a chance if I have to go back in time, and I have to pick one mentor, who I should spend learning from or witnessing him perform or, you know, listen to what he was telling others, his students, his mentees, then that individual is Vince Lombardi, the greatest coach, that literally any coach that you talk to anybody who you study if they are not attributing success to Vince Lombardi and his principles and his success if they’re not quoting if they’re not talking about Vince Lombardi than I think they are, they may not be the best. They don’t understand coaching. That’s how strongly I feel about this.
So I’ll give you one classic example. Vince Lombardi was a master in extracting 10% More from his players 10% more. When you take the 10% principle and apply it to any aspect of your life. It’s, you know, imagine, what will happen to you today. If you do everything that you do and push more. Imagine a scenario like that in your mind takes take a moment, close your eyes, if you’re static, and think about everything that you have your bank account goes up 10% Your work goes up 10% Your health goes up 10% Your overall happiness goes up fulfillment, Joy goes up 10% Imagine what happens. What is the picture that plays in your mind if everything goes up by 10%? That’s the question. We all are working towards it. That’s the truth. But very rarely do we see that we get there. Most of us do not. But a good coach like Vince Lombardi was successful in taking 10% More from his players. Now if you do not know Vince Lombardi is one of the greatest NFL coaches, and somebody who did not play football as much, but went on to become a coach. The greatest coaches of all time across all I believe across all games, literally. That’s how powerful Vince Lombardi is. Just to give you an idea. In 1958 the Green Bay Packers entered the season with one win and 10 losses. By 1959, that’s when the team was struggling. Vince Lombardi comes in and becomes the head coach and a new coach. And in the next nine years, the Packers win 75% Of all the games they were playing and During those nine years, they ended up with five NFL championships. And they also got the first two Super Bowls, and they won. So, this is incredible, this kind of record is not possible in today’s time, despite everything that we have this kind of performance cannot be created and single-handed laborers Lombardi is created for doing this.
Now, back in the day, you know, during the time there was a great football player, who subsequently became a sports commentator, but no, I don’t think he played for Green Bay Packers, I think he played for New York. Frank Gifford, one of the greatest analysts of the game, commentators TV host all that. And he said he made a comment on Vince Lombardi. He said Vince Lombardi is not the greatest football strategist. No, he had any tactics that were out of, you know, the unique, outstanding, all that, but he had an ability to kind of motivate each player and extract 10% more from each one of them. Now, mathematically speaking, there are 40 players on the team. And each person playing 10% of giving 10% more. And now you take those 40 people, you know, back in the day that would have bought, like, you know, 14 games in a season. And now you have a team that is unstoppable. Incredible, I mean, this, this mat, this stinking this man, his mindset, his contribution as a coach. You know, imagine not having a coach not having a mentor at that level, and spending the rest of your life with all this talent. The only reason why Vince Lombardi could do it, was because all those 40 players had the skill, the talent, they were either lacking motivation, clearly, maybe direction, maybe a few strategies here and there, but the greatest of the greatest in the game, they claim that Vince Lombardi did not have any strategy or tactic that was so unique and different. So what is it, it’s the environment, you see, the way you create that environment. And this goes back to my point from yesterday’s podcast, and the example of the Japanese fish koi and how it grows up to three feet if you put it in a lake, you know, some amazing? See, here is how I want to sum up this podcast today is the summary of this. No matter where you are can do 10% More across everything that you’re doing. So take that into your thinking, see, what can you do? Aim for 10 You get five or three doesn’t matter. Now, I have said this multiple times before. People say how do I measure this? Well, a measure is a measure. But nobody’s is nobody measured it was 10% or 12% or 8%. But clearly, Vince Lombardi was able to extract more than other coaches. So when you are able to give more than you know you’re giving more, you will feel it. You will know it. There is no measure for this. Okay.
That’s all, for now, you have a wonderful Sunday and I want to catch up with you as early as tomorrow.
