Thank you everyone for supporting this podcast, you may be listening to this podcast for the very first time, maybe you are a subscriber, maybe you are a repeat listener, whoever you are, thanks for being here. Thank you for your support. When I started this podcast at the beginning of this year, on January 1, I thought, I’m going to do this maybe for a month or two at the most for three months, I put myself I made a commitment to myself and to you that I’m going to do this every day for the next 365 days. But deep within me, I was not sure I had some faith. But I was not sure that faith was strong enough. But along the way, your questions came in, and you participated. You started liking the podcast, you started giving reviews. I attribute the survey to your questions. And I kept on asking for questions you kept on asking. And today. Again, on the podcast, I’m asking a question that has come in from a listener of my radio show, who heard the soul this Tuesday, Tuesday 28th was my radio show, listen to my radio show. And then ask the question about alcoholism, and hypnosis, a question that I did not even go into hypnosis on the show. I just mentioned hypnosis only once. And we were talking about habits. And then got back to me with a question and said, Would you please talk about the role of hypnosis in alcohol addiction? Thanks. That was the question.
And I responded back saying thanks for the question. Can you elaborate on the question a bit more so that I can get the context and respond so that my answer is more solution-driven than inflammation-driven? For example, the same question can be reframed as I have a friend, a family member, or a co-worker who has been addicted for over 20 years or 10 years, whatever. They have tried different things such as A B and see, they did not work at all, or they all worked moderately, out of the three see work the best. But again, nothing perpetually. Do you think hypnosis can help? I kind of helped this gentleman reframe this question. And they got back to me saying thank you for responding. I thought you were going to address the role of hypnosis in general in terms, you have summarized it quite well. It is all about a family member who has been battling alcohol and depression for over 15 years and has indeed tried different things, including being admitted to a center for a couple of months and falling off the tracks every few months. Is there a role for Hypno hypnotic therapy hypnotherapy? In this scenario? If so, have you had much success with it? Great question. I appreciate your expert opinion. Thank you. First of all, thank you for trusting me with this question. I’ll do everything I can to answer this because every time a question like this comes in, I understand there are many family members and other people who are involved who suffer as a result of this. So I take this question very seriously. Now, I’m going to kind of give an idea of how hypnosis works very quickly. And specifically in this context, what can you do? Right, so I’m going to make this specific to you and also, in general, make it informational for everybody who is listening. So why hypnosis?
Well, here is the truth, the majority of our behaviors, the majority of our habits, all come from the unconscious part of the human mind. So there is a this logical there is a logical divide in the brain, where we say part of it is conscious and the part of it is unconscious. And that logical divide is there is no physical divide. If you open up the brain that is there is nothing that you find saying okay, this bot is unconscious this bot is conscious, nothing. And the brain doesn’t show anything because the brain is a foundational thing. So the mind is where this happens. So we say unconscious mind and conscious mind logical mind illogical mind. Behaviors come from the unconscious mind, which is again the logical mind it has no logic it doesn’t differentiate and doesn’t know what it’s doing. The conscious mind is where the majority of the conscious mind is very responsible in educating the unconscious mind on what it has to do. Now hypnosis or anything for that matter hypnosis more precisely because I talk, I’m a big proponent of it. But anything that you do, let’s say you do yoga, you do meditation, any mind expansion technique that you follow your practice, the idea behind doing that is to tell the conscious mind, or use the conscious mind to teach the unconscious mind to become conscious. So you’re consciously teaching the unconscious mind to become conscious. And this is a lifetime activity that we all have to do because we can’t control the unconscious mind.
Now, why do we need to do this? Because if the mind itself is conscious, can’t we use the conscious mind to lead our life? Yes. But what has happened is along the way, as we grew up, we were born we grew up, we were educated with trained, so majority part of our life, the first 10 years, nine years of our life, the entire mind was unconscious. So along the way, in those nine years, 10 years or mind picked up many things that it has no way to get rid of. And the only way to really get rid of those things is to use the conscious conscious mind we started developing after we were 10 years old, or nine years old. And as we are growing every day, our conscious mind is becoming more and more aware. But the unconscious mind stays the same because the information that it received very early on, it took in thinking it is the truth. But then the conscious mind as we are growing up, the conscious mind is looking into the world and saying, wait a minute, what I already know is not the truth, I need to tell myself that truth is somewhere else. And the conscious mind is trying to make an attempt to train the unconscious mind to undo the things that it has already taken in as the truth but is unable to get rid of it. So in this context, why are we talking about a nine-year-old 10-year-old? And where do alcoholism or smoking? All those things come in specific here in this context alcoholism? Where is it coming from? Well, when you talk to an alcoholic, and you ask, Why are you drinking? Well, when I was a kid, my dad said this, and my mom said this. And I’m not able to overcome that pain. So that’s why I’m tricking. Now you may look at them and say that line. But there is some truth to it. If you really, really deep dive deep down into them, the truth comes out. It’s funny because somebody who is addicted, they don’t really contain that much information with the numbers speaking their mind.
So a lot of associations happen very early on. I’m not saying new associations did not happen along the way they might have happened. But then every time I have worked with anyone who has gone through some challenges in life, we trace back we do regress. And we get to a point where the majority of the things happened to them when they were young, they were before they were 10 to 12 years old, you know, in the timeframe of five to 12. So whatever it is, the behavior that they’re exhibiting now has to do with the unconscious mind. And doesn’t matter whether the unconscious mind got programmed early on in life or later on in life. Along the way, if somebody did the program, I’ll give you an example of how this programming happens. So you are with a friend who you believe you trust to want to spend time with. But then because that friend drinks, you start joining them and drinking. And then you’re chit-chatting, you’re talking or eating, you’re drinking. And you do that once then after a few days, two times, three times. And next thing you know, you have now established a pattern that you’re drinking three, four times a week.
So what stopped started out as a simple nonactivity, or nonsignificant activity became a significant activity. Now Now you’re finding an excuse to meet a friend and have conversations and you start drinking. So the pact has to be broken. Now, you may not agree that you’re addicted. But if you’re drinking more than twice a week, you are addicted three times a week. Now I’m not talking about quantity at all. Then I’m over 20 ML whatever that is three times a week you are officially addicted. And let’s talk about the case where somebody says I have been I have repressed emotions, I have things that were done to me. I had no control and now I want to fight them and my way of fighting is to drink. I’ve heard that also. So sometimes people drink because they want to modify a dysfunction that was either done to them early on or along the way they did to themselves. So some apathy, some guilt by them, or something done to them very early on. So somebody stepped on the soul, somebody got angry at them, somebody trashed them, whatever. So something or the perceived that something somebody did to them, whatever may be the case that tried to modify that, so that’s dysfunction in them. That’s the complex. So they want to modify the complex. So they start occasionally, drinking, giving them the power over that situation. So they keep doing that. And soon, maybe 510 15 days into this thing, or maybe a month or two into this.
Now, suddenly, you have a situation where you are modifying all the functions to accommodate this dysfunction. So all the other functions of life are now becoming dysfunctional. So you’re driving on the road, you’re looking for an excuse to drink, you are driving on the road, to some important meeting, whatever, then you stop, you have a drink all that so you get triggered easily, and everything else starts to dysfunction. So that’s the addiction state. Now, where will hypnosis help? What can be done in the situation? Now, the so many different solutions to this problem? You can rehab in this specific question. rehab was attempted, and for a couple of months, but it didn’t work. Why does it not work? Well, here’s the answer. If you know, the biggest challenge with alcoholics, at least in my observation, me working with people is they do not convincingly believe that they are addicted. That’s the issue. So if somebody doesn’t agree that they are addicted, and they want to beat that addiction, it’s very hard to really bring them out. So first of all, you have to accept that you are addicted. And the second desire is that I’m addicted, I want to break this addiction. So first, the acknowledgment that yes, I’m addicted. The second part is, that I want to break this addiction, I want to come out of this addiction. So two things, they have to be there somehow. So, hypnosis can be used to establish these two things, if these two things are lacking, and can be used. So there are suggestions that could be given to an individual who is open to therapy but then is not sure why. And unwilling that there is a need to quit. So we can establish the need to quit hypnosis that could be tempted. Now in my personal experience, I’ve seen people who really get D addicted or come out of it. Are those people who already have this meaning in their mind that yes, this is bad. Yes, I’m addicted. I’m looking to get out of this. What can I do? And here comes hypnosis. And bam, you give a suggestion that out, right? Sometimes, it’s easier in that situation because you are authoritative as a hypnotist or hypnotherapist you give a suggestion to the mind, and the mind quits. And they’re out. I’ve seen that happen.
Now 90% of the times, this doesn’t work, because the way alcohol does damage to your brain, it really rewires the brain. It’s very difficult to navigate the pathways. Smoking is different smoking is a habit. Alcoholism is not a habit. It’s the way of life just you know, depending upon 1015 20 years, somebody’s drinking, they’ve gone too far into this very hard to take them out. So how can you use hypnosis? Well, hypnosis can be used to deal with I suggest in this specific scenario, I suggest that you try some detection camps. You try whatever you tried before, but then use hypnosis to complement to make them stay on the path. use hypnosis to deal with panic attacks or any other withdrawal symptoms that they’re getting. Try two different styles of hypnosis, try authoritative hypnosis, try suggesting hypnosis and make sure that the hypnotherapist if this individual is having trouble establishing meaning let them spends some time a significant amount of time establishing meaning working with them to establish some meaning, and then try some suggestions, direct suggestions to see how the brain responds.
Okay, so those are the things I would suggest. Very difficult to get rid of alcoholism, with hypnosis, but with a good therapy plan with a good therapist and player who really understands the subject. It can be attempted, I suggest you attempt it. My success rate, there was a question Srini What was your success rate? My success rate with hypnosis is about 2080 80% No 20% Yes, you get out of it. 100 people I met 20 People were successful 80% were not. Okay, so I’m gonna be very clear with you before I sit in expectations with you. So try multiple different therapists to see which one can build a personal rapport with the subject, then go from there, but I suggest that you try, okay? There’s nothing wrong in trying and nothing wrong in surrendering to hypnosis.
Okay, that’s all for now. I hope this is helpful. I hope I came across if you need a little bit more depth in-depth answer on this, let me know I will do my best little bit more education, and hypnosis, more than happy to do that send you an audio or a video or whatever, that will enlighten you a little bit more. That’s all for now. Wherever you are, be safe. And I’ll be talking to you as early as tomorrow. Stay tuned. Bye now.
