Know, Like and Believe Your Job!

Know, Like and Believe Your Job!

Here is the complete transcript of the podcast

Today on the podcast, I am re-answering a question, which I have answered multiple times in the past on the podcast, and also on my radio shows, which is about passion jobs carrier. And this question specifically, is about a gentleman who is changing jobs, but he is very unhappy no matter where he goes. So what should I do? That was the question. This question came in a few months ago, I responded back via email, I responded back with a recording of my earlier podcast, I think, a YouTube link. But then I realized, as I was going through my inbox, I thought maybe I can answer this question differently.

Now, you see, I’m growing. I’m also growing. So if you ask me the same question to me, a month from now, you’ll get a different answer. Two months from now, a whole different answer altogether. So that’s the beauty of the human mind is that you can attempt something, and you come back after an hour or two or a week later or a day later or whatever. If you attempt the same question, you will have a different answer. The beauty of the mind. Okay, so the question is this, I’m changing jobs, and I’m unhappy, no matter where I go, What should I do? Should I retire? No, didn’t say that. First of all, I’m happy that there is a pursuit, that is an effort to change a situation. Most people give up. They do few things, few attempts, then give up. I’m happy that you are attempting and you’re trying to change the situation. So first of all, let me tell you, if you’re unhappy in a job that you are in right now, you are not alone. Okay, there are numerous studies done and there are studies being done right now. And the unhappy percentage is very high. Or what 80% There is documented research, I think from the 1960s. Consistently for a long period of time in the 60s, they did some research, and the data was over 80% are unhappy today, despite social media, high-paying jobs, the economy, the way we are in the world economy the way it is still, that unhappiness continues. And that is why people are leaving their jobs and doing things.

Thanks to social media and all the avenues that Internet has created. People are staying home doing what they want to do, they want to take control of the time, and they want to have autonomy in everything that they are doing. And they want to have the flexibility in making the money while enjoying life, which is awesome. But still, that unhappiness continues. In one of the radio shows recently, just about a month or two ago, I suggested that change your thought about work. And happiness is everywhere. And you cannot justify your happiness by saying that you have a better title now or I’ll make more money now or have more people reporting to me now. I hear people say that, but it’s just a matter of time before something is going to annoy you. And something is going to take over your existence. So you got to change your thoughts about the work that you’re doing. And there are numerous stories of motivation and motivational stories from the past. And I’ve gone through these myself at a point in my career. About 25 years ago, I was struggling in my job and I was like, What should I do? You know what, why am I unhappy, I keep changing jobs. I’m unhappy. I went into consulting I consulted while came back to a full-time job. I struggled there. So the bottom line is the association in my mind about the work I was doing was incorrect. I was doing something that was not in alignment with who I was. And I’m lucky in a very few now it looks like luck. But I was I don’t know what, but somehow along the way, I moved and shifted to do something that is in alignment with my self-esteem, which is this work. So on the radio show, I said you got to know what you’re doing. First of all, the most important part is you need to know what you’re doing. You cannot wake up in the morning, go to work and try to stitch a few things together.

It doesn’t work that way. You really have to know what you’re doing. You really need to be on top of the work that you do. If not it’s going to become hard. I don’t have words to explain this. It’s painful. It’s that every day you die every day because you’re in a crappy situation and you will never you can never get out of it. Okay. And not only that, you know what you are doing but you also have to like that which you are doing. Imagine me showing up on this podcast and not liking this and Not knowing, of course, knowing I can you can figure out what I’m doing. But if I don’t like what I’m doing, that’s, that’s horrible. Now, there’s a third element to this also, which is you got to believe that which you are doing. So know like and believe. I just not only believe that what I do, but there is also this underlying belief that that which I do is helping people.

Not only just not I don’t believe that, okay, yes, but podcasting also is the right thing to do, or coaching is the right thing to do. Mentoring is the right thing to do. It’s not, but I believe that it’s helping people. And the way you believe that what you are doing is when you associate your work with a higher purpose, your mission, your purpose and that you believe in the end result. The end result is not an organization, the end result is not the title, it’s not the money, it’s not who you dine with, who you wind with none, none of those people. So amazing. Even at this time, of the age we are in right now, people still give these or my help. In my last job, I had like 300 people to put in I only have 50 people. I’m like, really? Does it matter? I hear that I hear that there is there are some measures that have to go away. That’s the incorrect way to really bring the best out of you when you start looking at these numbers, salary, people reporting their titles, your title, none. So, the end goal is, you know, whatever you’re doing, whatever I’m doing, you know, does it align to a bigger purpose, and I have a mission, you know, and then it really impacts and changes, transforms, whatever, I have those in my mind. But it could be something totally different for you, whatever it is. You know, there are two measures, and I’ll talk about measures, there are two measures. Everything you do has to be something that has to happen for you. Okay. And everything I do, I’m for me, it’s about impact. That has to happen, there has to be some level of impact, if not money, on all those things that don’t really excite me. Young when I was young, yeah, maybe not anymore, right? So there has to be something Something has to happen. And that has to for me is the impact. And they’re also something also I want to Okay, so has to and want to these are two things that I always look forward to in things that I do. Unhappiness at work has to do with your mental state. And the pursuit has to be the pursuit not to change the job. That means you’re changing external variables. And changing anything externally doesn’t really necessarily change something that’s happening internally. So your likes, dislikes, your tastes, and your inclinations have to do with what is happening inside of you. It has nothing to do with it. And this has to do with your belief systems.

This has to do with the way you have created some associations within yourself. And probably this has to do with the environment that you’re in, maybe people around you do not have the right conversations. They do not. Probably they’re focused on the wrong things. Maybe you are drawing that energy from the environment. Maybe I could be wrong, though. You know, your job will absorb your entire life. That’s the truth. I was just talking to my nephew the other day. He says I’m going to retire in two years. Wow. And I said, What’s your definition of retirement? Well, I wake up in the morning and I will do whatever I want to do. I don’t need to go anywhere. I said I’m doing that for the last 15 years, or more than 15 Now, I wake up in the morning, and I choose what to do.

So the sad story is that your job is going to take over your entire life. So you better be liking it. I tell you. I don’t know if I answered your question or not. But I attempted and I’m going to stop here. You enjoy your Sunday and I’ll catch up with you tomorrow. Beautiful new week, Monday. Okay, stay tuned.
