Article Marketing: Should You Use Key Words In Your Theme For Submission To Search Engines?

This question has been raised consistently by many of the subscribers to this blog?

I have two answers to this question. They both contradict each other. If you position somewhere in the middle you will get success on both ends.

Answer #1: Yes keyword rich articles do generate good amount of traffic. You should write as many articles as possible that are relevant to your website and submit them to different article directories.

Answer #2: Assuming that you need relevant traffic and quality traffic, keyword stuffed articles many not help you. In fact they may hurt you big time.

Many Promoters of Internet Marketing preach how easy it is to get massive amount of traffic by creating keyword stuffed articles and distributing them to article directories. I told you that above and I do agree with that..but imagine this..

Do you want traffic that is very generic or traffic that is of high quality?

Let me illustrate this with an example… you do a search on words “Reverse Mortgages” on Google or yahoo. You click on the first link. The search returns and you start reading.. you find something in these lines…

“Reverse mortgages are big things in this economy. Economy is going down. People are retiring. The best way to get money back quicker, easier are thru reverse mortgages, to get a reverse mortgage you do not need any income. Reverse mortgage can be paid out to you in monthly installments. With a reverse mortgage you can live in the house till you die. Reverse mortgages are on the rise..blah blah blah”

As you see its all generic stuff. There is some information. But that is short and incomplete. How many times the word “Reverse Mortgages” is repeating? effectively saying the article brings no value to the reader. Help me understand.. If I write something that you have no interest in reading then what will be your next action? either close the window or move on to the next link right?

So you see the disconnect. Relevancy is the key to success. Let the reader feel previleged for reading your article. Let him get the best value in the amount of time he/she spends on your content. Let the content be relevant, precise and helping in nature. Quality is all that matters.

Now here is the strategy.?  This is what I do when I am developing my articles. Once written they range anywhere between excellent, best, good and average. I usually try re-writing the articles that I feel are below average or average. Sometimes no matter how hard I try I don??™t get them right..

By below average I mean..I can put my name Srini Saripalli at the bottom of the article and my emotions are tied with it at this time, but the content will not bring any value to the reader in the first place so it defeats the purpose.

Hence I go for key word search at this time with what I have on hand. The best tool I have ever found to do my keyword search is keyword elite This is one of the best tools in the market today. Using keyword elite I try to find as many lateral keywords as possible that have a high search count but low Keyword Effective Index or KEI as it is will know (KEI ranking of 4.5 and Search count of 300K or more is considered excellent). I take about two or three keywords and plug them into my articles and submit them into the directories. At this point I submit that article to all the directories.

Now I will get some traffic. If they come it is good and if they do not come it is OK.

What ever you are trying to sell give it away for free. In other words Give away your best content for free and charge for everything else. I had been preaching this over 10 years now in all the places wherever I ever taught. I think at the end of the day, your sales pitch and sales demonstrations of a high end product with a potential customer is more powerful than the real product . An article is the first step in the sales process.

So give away your best ideas, best techniques for free. People will judge you based on who you are and then they will be willing to do business with you. When they deal with you try to live up to their expectations and try to over deliver.. That is the whole idea.
