Feel A Deep Sense Of Professional Uncertainty? Then Do This

Feel A Deep Sense Of Professional Uncertainty? Then Do This

Here is the complete transcript of the podcast

Welcome back to Success with Srini. Happy Sunday morning to you. A very, very interesting question has come in. And it’s an open-ended question. I expect specific questions on this podcast. If you have any questions for me let it let them be specific so that I can give specific answers. And people love specific answers. Not all the listeners love specific answers. So this is a generic question. It’s an open-ended question. So every time I come across an open-ended question, I don’t know how to answer it. Because there are so many different ways you can answer. And every time you take a path, you lose, or you ignore, or you miss taking 20 other paths to answer the question. So interesting question, because, okay, here is how it goes. Streaming I have been in Silicon Valley for about 11 years now, I make good money. But there is a constant fear. And I don’t know what’s going wrong with me. Or if there is anything wrong with me? How can I become fearless? It’s a wonderful question. It’s not a specific question, because the question was specific, then it should have been, okay, this is not going right with me or this job is not going right, or this investment is not going right, or my dynamic with my boss is not going right. Something specified. I wanted a little bit more specificity in the question, but it’s a good question.

So here is how I would approach it. If I wake up in your shoes, the few reasons why we feel this kind of uncertainty. And there are few areas I want you to look into. The foremost area is lack of trust in the nature of the work you do, or you don’t trust the work or you don’t believe in what you do, or that you don’t feel you’re equipped enough to do what you do, or you don’t trust the environment within which you work. Some of those along those lines, I want you to focus on that. Now, the reverse thought to that is that in order for you to really overcome this fear, this professional fear is that I want you to start believing that you are a real player, in whatever you’re doing, you’re a real player, that means you are the best in the game. That means that you have greatness in you, that means that you have what it takes to, to weather and stand and still make sense and still be impactful still be relevant to everything that would otherwise happen to you and to the profession and to the industry in general. That’s the kind of a conviction, we are talking about here. So that means if you study the real players, real players have some level of uniqueness to them. The question you have to ask yourself is what is unique about you? So take some time, sit down today? And answer that question. So talk around and talk to your spouse, your partners, your friends, whoever you have in your life, people who know you well ask them what is something unique about you? What is something about you that they think that you only have it and nobody has it? Nobody else has a toxic boss? Talk to your co-workers? Why not? But there’s another big question you got to answer. And that is, what is that you do that others rarely do? Or others do not do it often? Or others do it but you don’t see it? Or maybe they’re not doing it. That’s why you’re not seeing it. Right. So what is that you do? That’s so rare? Obviously, you are unique. But then what is it that you do that others rarely do? It’s the question.

And obviously, there is something in you that’s so unique and we all of us are unique, all of us are made different. So that isn’t going to be a situation where somebody is exactly like you. There is some training, some teaching some values, some beliefs, some upbringing, all that has made you who you are. So your job is not to deny that your job is not to question that your job is to find who you are. What’s unique about you, what is that you do that others do not do? Given that you have been given all this to you? And given that you are given all this? You have to kind of go deep and find this.

Once you know that that is the path. Well, that’s the starting point of you identifying your greatness. And identifying greatness is a lifelong pursuit. It’s not something that is done in one shot but once you identify this, I think it becomes easier. I think it becomes somewhat easier but you have to believe that you are a real player. You are real. You are unique. You feel you are undeniable, you are unique in what you’re doing. That’s where the peace starts. It takes away some of these fears, at least it’ll address some of these fears right away. But then this won’t help you, let’s say do this exercise in the next few days, this doesn’t help you, then maybe the problem is somewhere else, maybe something else is causing this uncertainty, this disconnect. If this doesn’t help, then one thing will definitely happen, which is, the real specific question will come out as a result of this, you will discover a few ways better ways to ask the question. And once you discover a few, a better way to ask the question, me or anybody else can help you. So that becomes easier for us people like us, whoever you’re asking this question too.

So that’s all for now. If you are listening to this podcast, hopefully, this is helpful in general, if you’re listening to the podcast, everybody else who’s listening to this podcast, hopefully, the cell phone. Hopefully, you see how I’m approaching this question. That’s all for now. You have a wonderful rest of the Sunday and something unique today. Something very unique today, but I’ll stop here. We’ll talk about this tomorrow for a podcast. Okay. That’s all for now. Wherever you are, be safe, and we’ll talk soon
