How To Hire A Mentor

How To Hire A Mentor

Here is the complete transcript of the podcast

Has it ever happened to you that something that you had been doing for a long amount of time, maybe 10, 15, 20 years, you wake up one morning, and you realize that everything that you had been doing for all these years, is not valid anymore? I’m not sure if you had this epiphany or this experience ever. I had once gone through this one time, I woke up one morning to realize what a big blunder I have done. With my years and years of understanding of a topic that is no more true. It’s completely incorrect. Not necessarily the idea of the knowledge, but the approach was completely incorrect, I could have approached it differently, and had a different outcome bigger and much more rewarding outcome, than the way I did it for a long time. Okay, here is how it goes.

This is, you know, I’m shivering as I’m doing this, okay. That’s how profound This is. Every time somebody has a problem, the first thing they do is try to fight it. And once they realize they cannot fight it anymore, they want to solve it. And first, they try to solve its force, then they will try to solve it with knowledge. And the only source of knowledge that we have been told by our parents and teachers is to read a book. So they go buy a book or borrow a book to solve the problem. So you have money problems, you want to explore how to make more money by getting a book, you have problems with saving money, or spending money, credit card, whatever you want to read a book on financial planning. Likewise, you have a bad habit, you will read a book on self-improvement. Now, all these books, if you get to the gist of all these books, there is a three-step simple process. That’s what these books talk about. Eventually, eventually, every author is a coach, eventually, every author has a seminar, every author has a workshop. Every author has an inner circle so the process is pretty simple. The book is lead gen. And then you step into a bigger, deeper association with them.

Three Steps to all this first and foremost in each of these books, each of these authors, they all say find an area to improve. So you already know which area you’re struggling in. Second, they will tell you eventually is to hire a mentor. And then they will tell you to create a plan and solve it to work with the mentor to solve, get to that goal get to that outcome, three steps. I did this the steps, the steps this process for years and years and years, for nearly 15 years. Like I know, I need to learn how to start a business I need to learn how to do this and how to do that. So I was waiting to hire a mentor. I kind of put a plan sometimes I had the plan ahead and I had it in my mind. And then I was looking for a mentor and I sometimes, you know you resonate with some people, sometimes some people are way more, you know, unreachable. You know, that’s the right word. You know, they’re too big for you. Sometimes you want to go with someone because you can create a connection with them all that so I went through all backed and only to realize that the plan I had in my mind is in a way unachievable because I’m not finding the right mentor. I spent a lot of time in that loop. Like going in looking for a mentor change the plan. I hear I listen to a mentor and they tell me, okay, do this differently or do this in a different way. And I like Okay, fine. So I’m going to change what I’m doing. Because I found a mentor. Or maybe this area doesn’t need improvement anymore. Because I’ve started to like, you know, I’m starting to live with this problem. So sometimes the prayer itself went away. Sometimes the need itself went away. While I was waiting for a mentor, sometimes my plan itself was incorrect, even though I had a good mentor. So I lived in this for a long time. Then suddenly what happened I was one day looking into all the investments I have done. And I was looking into some of the real estate portfolios that I was holding.

And I looked into all the houses that we were buying and some of the houses I bought, not because the schools were good, not because the property was located in the right city or any of that. I bought the properties because The property manager was good. So the property manager told me there is a house coming up do I want to buy? And I found his referral because I liked the property manager. So I ended up buying houses because of the property manager. So I took that idea. And I started looking into other aspects of life. Said, Okay, what if instead of trying to improve an area, instead of putting a plan together and then going after a mentor, or whatever that process is, why don’t I flip this whole narrative? Why don’t I look for mentors regardless of any areas of improvement, and I go invest in them. And I’ll tell you, my game completely shifted. With that one little epiphany, that one little idea. Every time I found a mentor who was willing to teach, I invested my time and money, mostly time. So I found a mentor, who was teaching a language that I had absolutely no interest in because he was a good teacher. I invested my time. I found a platform speaker or speaker who speaks from the stage had no interest to become a stage speaker from the stage. I ended up investing and becoming really good at it because he was a good mentor. I had no need for it. Then I found somebody who was incredible with the radio. Goodman’s incredible mentor. He was willing to do this for everybody who was stepping into this radio station. I stepped in, I invested in the mentor. My life changed.

You see, the message on today’s podcast is instead of trying to take your problem to a mentor, why not take a mentor’s opportunity into your life? When I flipped this narrative, I’ll tell you, I’ve been so happy because I get to meet incredible people who are incredible in what they do. I get to spend time with them. I get to learn. I’m a perpetual student. I never get to a state in my mind where I say, Okay, I solved a problem. I feel good about myself. I expect problems. In fact, every time I learn something new, I feel inadequate. But then because that inadequacy is not created by me. I love that inadequacy. I love improving it. I found an incredible mentor who was very good with videos, said okay, I’m willing to learn how I got into videos. I revamped my youtube channel you see, this is amazing when you really don’t need something but you spot talent. magic happens. So I want you to flip the narrative. Flip the narrative and go find good mentors, from whom you may not learn. Not because you want to solve a problem that you have and you expect them to solve it for you. But then because they have something to offer, and because you can afford to become a student and because you want to bring that greatness that they have into your life. I promise you, your life will change.

I appreciate you listening to this podcast. Stay with me. I’ll be back here again tomorrow. We can have an incredible conversation. Bye now.
