Process Centrism in IT..

Almost one year ago I wrote an article on ITInnerCircle.com. It was about “Process Centrism in IT”.

Then everyone was discussing on how to create an optimal process driven IT department. I wrote about how focusing on process is sometimes difficult and needs a certain degree of individual commitment on you and your direct reports. Why you need to coach them on the benefits and values of this new process driven approach. How to achieve this in a scientific and convincing manner etc:

Process centrism is alien to many business models ??“ for instance, consensus business models don??™t work ??“ and they require a dedicated and effective leader who??™s not afraid of stepping on toes to get things done. Once implemented, though, process centrism allows you to cut out the unimportant stuff and focus on the tasks that will get your goals done ??“ it winds up selling itself once everyone in the organization sees what efficiencies have been created with it.

To achieve this optimal state, there are many things you need to do… If you are just starting out, here are my top three:

  • Maintain Metrics to track progress in an objective manner.
  • Collect a body of data & then think about optimization later. Make rational decisions based on scientifically collected data.
  • Acquisition and implementation based on the software??™s ROI, not just the fact that it??™s the latest and hottest release
