How To Know When To Delegate: The 5-Indicators

How To Know When To Delegate: The 5-Indicators

Here is the complete transcript of the podcast

Today’s podcast episode is a question that I did not answer. The question came about like, a couple of months ago, maybe more. I never answered this question. But then, as I was looking into here, 2023 and the way it’s shaping up some goals, and some projects that I want to take on, it started to this question came back to my mind. And I said, Okay, I should now answer this question because this is my problem. Now, before earlier, it was a listener’s problem. And they were not very serious about it. So I did not answer the question. And now it has become my problem. So I own this. So the question was Srini, I’ve been listening to your podcast, and specifically, I love the productivity secrets that you have been sharing. I wanted to know when I should delegate that to the question, and you keep on pushing to delegate wanted to find out how I know that I’m ready to delegate stuff. For my work? That was the question.

Now, the reason why this has become so dominant, in my mind, is because I’m starting to delegate more in 2023, I’ve started to figure this out, or at least I’ve started to acknowledge the fact that I’m not able to keep up with everything that’s happening. And I need to agree, I need to acknowledge even more and plan for this. I’m an entrepreneur. And, to a large extent, I don’t seek perfection in my life. At the same time, I have issues with letting go. You know, giving up controls is an issue. And this is dominant. In a lot of people. See, you don’t want others to do your job. Or you don’t want to, you don’t want others to do some aspects of your job, even though you are delaying, you are procrastinating you are waiting, and you’re sleeping on the task that’s otherwise, then they have to happen. But for some reason, you’re not doing whatever it is. And now you’re in a situation where you are falling behind. So how to know when to do this, and how far you should go with this? Now, I want to answer this question within the context of work. There are many things you should be delegating. In your personal life in your financial life, there are so many things you should be pretty much everything has to be delegated at some level. You see, here is the challenge. You are dabbling. When I say you, I mean all of us, we are dabbling between people and technology. So we have to depend on people or on technology to get things done. And we’re also doubling between time and expectations. You see, there are a lot of expectations that we have of ourselves. We have expectations that are coming from our loved ones, we have expectations of society, I mean, everybody has expectations. And a lot has to do with us.

Now a lot of stress creates a lot of stress. So there are expectations, some created by others, some created by our own selves. And we need to balance or somehow we have to live up to those expectations in the amount of time we have. And we don’t have a lot of time. So if you want to meet all the expectations, in the amount of time you have, you either have to really become good at what you do. Or you depend on other people. If you depend on other people, then there comes inadequacy, you’re introducing some level of inadequacies, some level of inefficiencies, some degree of unknowns into everything. It’s very difficult to find good people to work on your stuff. That’s the truth. And that’s where the companies struggle, that’s where, you know, it’s an issue. And if you can’t find people, and then we go to technology, and sometimes we go to a combination of people in technology to get things done if we want to get them done in the amount of time we have. So, this is a constant never ending struggle. And we all go through this. So limited time and a lot of expectations, how do we live up to this? So in principle, whatever may be the case, you should be delegating. The question is when to know to delegate that that was an awesome question or something that’s awesome question. So So here are some pointers on when to delegate. If people are happy with your work, it’s about time that you should delegate. Think about it.

Why should you delegate? When people are happy with you, people are happy with you, it means you need to start setting bigger and more difficult goals for yourself, you need to grow. And for that, you need to do different things. And for that you need time. So people are very happy with what you’re doing. It’s about time that you should replace yourself. If people, your employees or coworkers, or people will report to you, they are showing more interest in the stuff that you are doing. If they are desiring more responsibility, then it’s time for you to delegate. If whatever you’re doing right now, doesn’t require a lot of perfection, you just want to get things done, you don’t need a lot of perfection, then you should delegate, you shouldn’t do that. You should delegate. If, whenever, and wherever, there is an app, or if there is a technology that can do things that otherwise you’re doing manually, you should delegate. If there are some recurring tasks that you’re doing, then you should delegate. This podcast is a recurring task. But I can’t delegate this, there are some aspects of this I delegate. But not all of it. Let’s say you want to learn something, you want to explore yourself, you want to educate yourself in some new area, or you want to explore some area a bit more at a deeper level, we are talking about personal growth, we are talking about the growth that has different aspects to it. If that is an ask, then you should delegate. So these are some ideas on when to think about delegating. And the reason why I’m doing today’s podcast and the reason why I’m answering or speaking my mind here is that in 2023 I have similar goals that I have for 2022. They’re not different, but I know why they did not happen do you do. And I know now that if I would have just enlisted some more help in some areas, then I would have been a lot farther in the game. And I want to fix that in the new year.

My question to you, in fact, I have asked for you, I want you to list down or write down everything that you are otherwise repeatedly doing. Or unnecessarily doing whatever it is, there is some value to it, that maybe there is some intrinsic value to it to you only, but other people don’t consider that that way. But whatever it is, so I want you to write down things that you shouldn’t be doing, but otherwise are doing. And I want you to think seriously about how these things are impeding your success. If someone can do these things, what will happen to you? How quickly can you grow more all you can do with the time that you will free up? See, I know if you’re listening to this podcast, I know you are dealing with a lot of expectations. You are practicing self-improvement or you’re a student of self-improvement. And the truth is you need help. The question is how can you help somebody to help you? Okay, I want to stop here. Go enjoy your weekend work on this ask work. Take this as homework work on this. And I promise you you will be in a much better situation when you step into the new year.

That’s all for now. And before you know it, I’ll be with you as early as tomorrow. Enjoy your Saturday. Thank you.
